Gear lever locking pin sticks (I think)

Hi,
Only a slight problem but worried in case it becomes a big problem!
The locking pin that prevents you putting the gear selector into drive with the brake doesn't seem to disingage completely. To put my car into drive I have to mive the gear selector slightly to the left as if the pin is still sticking out a little bit.
Can this be adjusted and is it easy to get at?

I'm just a bit concerned that if it sticks completely I won't be able to get it into gear
