Dealer Gets It wrong
Dealer Gets It wrong
As the title says
Checking my new car order I notice the dealer has ordered High Gloss shadowline roof rails instead of the Matt Aluminium
I had emailed the dealer with my build day before order was placed and when went in the following day he printed it of and checked it the I signed the new car order. So was checking it today as I had nowt else to do & noticed the mistake.
Telephoned the Sales Mgr who after checking confirmed the error, & admits mistake is there's.
He said they will replace shadowline with Matt aluminium, he says they just clip onto a roof rail template. However I'm not so sure, I think they bolt on through roof metal & roof lining will need taken down to access bolts etc, which I am definatley not happy with
If its just a clip on issue to a template (template thats bolted to roof)fair enough, but if the whole roof rail is fixed by bolts I am not happy spending £54k to have roof linings removed...........
I have called a couple different BMW part dept and have got conflicting details, some say the roof rails are @£200 a side with 3 bolts each, another said it looks like they clip on and are @£80each with 6 or so clips each
What do you guys think?

If it already has roof rails changing them is very simple and will not involve any work inside the car.
Don't worry it will be fine.

Personally I prefer the shadowline.
Just just as I prefer black window surrounds on my E53 Sport over the standard fit bright items on SE models.
Regardless of above I hope you sort matters to your satisfaction.

My car will need item 2 (flush mounted roof rail) replaced.
Went into dealers this morning, after speaking with Master Technician its clear whole roof lining will need taken down, as only partial pulling it to side risks creasing the lining. The roof rail definately bolts through metal roof with 3 on each side.
However tech said that as my car has pano roof its easier as the lining has a front & rear pin to relocate it exactly correct (non SR lining does not and its harder to refix).
They have assured me that no distructive removal of any parts (ie seals, glued items etc) needs done and the Master Tech will fit & have offered to allow me access to view work in progress & finish, so its put my mind at ease bit.

Re: Dealer Gets It wrong
on e53s they come off in 5 min without going inside, surely its a bad design on the e70! on e53 the bit bolted through the roof stays on and the rail attaches to this, bmw must be numpties if they have changed this!!

Re: Dealer Gets It wrong
I have just re read your post and realised you have ordered an E70 not an X6 . You are correct that they are bolted internally unlike the x6 but they are easy enough to remove and if you have spoken to the technician that is going to undertake the job i am sure he will take extra care to ensure the job is 100%.
Make sure you inspect the work before signing to accept the car.
Good luck , sure it will be fine.

Don't think this will happen as they dont touch it except for removing front switch panel and 5 torx bolts that hold front liner section. so there should be no issues with it. However the more I look into this the unhappier I'm getting

The roofs just seem super sensitive to any adjustments as when I had the problem with mine they said they were just tweaking this and that to try and fix it

Just re-read instructions
"Necessary preliminary tasks:
• Remove glass sunroof lid at front"
Now that's taking apart a manufactured part of kit. No No No
Not going to happen - wife's decided Not accepting a change of rail due to what involved. told dealer today, will view car in flesh then decide if we accept or reject car. What a F******* hassle.

Re: Dealer Gets It wrong
If it were me I would be looking at either a substantial discount, or it would be a reject as not being what was ordered and therefore not acceptable. Given the amount of money involved, if it's not right then it's not right. But you may have to allow the supplier to correct the error before being able to reject it. A hard call! I would not want anyone going near a Pano roof either.
Good luck with your negotiations

Have had a long chat with wife and we are def not going down route of allowing them to replace roof rails.
I was uncomfortable with the amount of trim that needs removed just to access the roofliner, the akwardness of job and the risk of damaging stuff. Now, with the understanding that the sunroof needs part removal (though I can't understand why?) and its known issues there is no way I want that part of the car tampered with.
So we are left with either accepting the car as it is or rejecting it and waiting on another one being reordered with another 7-8 weeks wait. I've change my mind about that one more than a pendulum on a grandfather clock
What do thread readers think? What would you do?

What does matt aluminium look like?
They may get you one quicker than 7-8 weeks although with the shipping delay maybe not
