Newbie with Tyre question

Post by stdawson65 » Thu Nov 24, 2011 3:03 pm

Hi All,

Bought a Black 3.0 Sport 06 Plate last year with the 5 spoke Alloys. All four wheels have 255/50 R19 tyres. I am getting some new ones and the garages say I need 285/45 on the rear and the 255/50's on the front. I looked on the Forum and found the specs and it stated that the 285 255 combo was right rear and front.

Anyone know if this is the case? I am by no means a tyre expert and if it is 285 and 255 then I wonder why BMW garage put 255's everywhere.....

Check handbook, check sticker to drivers door shut.

Mine say 285/45/19 on rear & I thought all E53's with Sport package had same.

Once confirmed go back to dealer & ask them to sort same asap as well as checking wheel sizes, (width), are correct.

Correction please see realoem link by clicking here

This states fronts are 9J rears are 10J as item 3 part number ending 931 is front & ending 932 back.

Hopefully its just the tyres that are wrong & not the wheels but get them to cinfoirm part numbers in writing. They can play this down if they wish but they have caused you to drive/own a car with incorrect fitment & as such an insurance assesor being very pedantic could take issue in event of a claim following his/her assesment of the vehicle.

Confirmation independent of realoem on 2nd link

This is correct 9J for the fronts and 10J for the rears - you should be able to see the rears have a deeper dish look to them.

Tyre sizes will be:

255/50/19
285/45/19

And of course they could be 9J all round hence the same size tyres...

Hope you can update us on what happens next. :)
