Thanks for that think mine has a glow plug fault , mine did not have this as an extra but if it doesn't work will Bmw fix it ??

Excellent topic, I put power to pin 1 and watched as my windscreen demisted so now to do the remote installation
BUT. Can somebody point me in the direction of a suitable remote to control the aux heater but it must have time delays, I dont have faith that the Mrs (or myself) wont forget it on. So its important to me that after 20 or 30 mins it switches itself off.
I called the local webasto dealer and he wants £270 plus vat for the basic telestart kit, thats supply only so I want to avoid that.
I found somewith time delays but they are for 5 seconds and the like, I need it to be like 10mins/15mins/20mins/30mins etc.
Can anyone show me a link to such a thing?

I used the one from maplins. http://www.maplin.co.uk/2-channel-rf-re ... ule-265472 I have seen one on ebay that has the timers slightly cheaper than maplin. I have a scanner that enabled the timers on the OBC. I am in Fife if anyone wants them enabled.

Danhag.de do a gsm remote for 150 euros. All you will need is a pay and go sim card then you can phone your car to turn it on/off.... Best thing is you don't need to be in range like other kits for remote to work as long as you have a phone signal. Can also get the optional add on of alarm input so if your car alarm is activated it rings you or texts you. I'm sure you can program it to run for 30 mins or however long you want it to run for... I have lots of emails from them somewhere. Just need to get my webasto working on 12v to pin 1 as it doesn't blow hot. It works fine as intended when temps are below 8c or what ever it is

Hi All, after over a year of good operation no my heater has packed in.
Scanner reported a glow plug failure, so I replaced that but still no joy, but fired the unit up with fuel line disconnected and no fuel is coming through..
Hence I think it could be the fuel pump to the parking heater.
Anyone know if this is on a separate fuse? and where this is located on the X5.

mcc05 - there's a 5amp fuse, u coudl check that. (either in the glove box or in the boot- can't remember cos i checked both places AND found it)
i know that cos i'm still as below, in stage 1, but when nothing worked i checked the fuses as well.
guys i'm in stage one of this still.. trying to see if the unit can be fired off by giving power to pin 1. i need help pls.
here's what i tried:
stripped off a bit of shield from wire on pin 1, connected positive lead. nothing happened. held for about a minute as well in case there was a timer, nothing at all happened.
then i tried the same with the key in teh ignition hole, in position 1 (ie, radio on). still nothing happened.
then i pulled out the 6-pin plug and held the positive lead onto the pin 1 itself (little chance unless the units housing acted as the ground). still nothing happened:(
nothing happening as in, no sound or feedback AT ALL. not even the teeniest spark.
postive that i provided couldn't have been better either, cos it was from the massive postive outlet just around there (provided in case car needed to be jumped started), and using a 4mm cable (piece from what is used for powering sub amps)
have i missed a step somewhere? or am i one of the unlucky ones? (i remember dirtymonkey saying this is really touch and go..)

To apply power to pin 1 you need to push a sewing needle or something similar down the pin. I did this with a pair of pliers then attached a wire to it

well i stripped off a bit of the green/white wire on pin 1 and touched the positive onto that. that should do the same as a sewing needle (i've never seen my mss sewin so i wouldn't find one if i looked lol ). that should do the trick re. teh connetion right..

Don't touch it on, you need a constant 12v to pin one, what are you using for the 12v source

i stripped a bit of the insulation off the wire on pin 1(green/white), and held a wire tight onto it.
i took the source from the massive + terminal close to that place, whch is there to jump start the car with.
