It is most likely the glow (heater) plugs, you may not need all 6, get them tested and replace.

I take it when it was running it was not lumpy so probablly not be fuel issue.

Diesel will not start

Had a very similar issue with mine earlier this year, turned out to be the pre fuel pump relay behind the glove box. £10 for the relay and 10 mins to fit.

Could be that or the fuel pump itself. I had the same symptoms and it turned out to be the High Pressure Fuel Pump. You should be able to hear a buzzing sound when you turn your key to position II, this is the Fuel Pump charging the fuel lines... mine was dead.

Hopefully it won't be too difficult to fix for you.

Plugs or possibly control unit to same.

Could still be something else though.

You need to hook it up to a diagnostic reader IMO.

In abscence of being able to scan for codes your friend will have to test &/or replace various individual components in order to confirrm the fault/cause.

problem solved . It was a combunation of an injector not working properly and then causing the pump to work harder , then injector failing and pump failing . Not cheap but done and running like a dream .
Also did filter changes at the same time as it was in bits .
