Anyone into Rallying?

Post by Ranger 6 » Fri Oct 21, 2011 8:54 am

I've been out marshalling on a couple of rallies recently - does anyone else get involved? Either as marshals or competitors?

Here's a shot from the event photographer from last weekend.

Had a good event - the worst of the rain hit during the wee small hours so the stages weren't too bad.

Yup - Marshall at the Sunseeker every year. Have always taken my E53 SE (the 17" wheels made it much more off road friendly) - but I now have a E70 m-sport with 20" wheels instead which would not be so off-road friendly. Luckily I will have my winter 19's on then - but it will be interesting tearing down the forest roads in that.

Was out on the Sunseeker for the first time this year. Was helping with radio control so visited a few stages. I'm hoping to be back out again next year so will keep an eye out.

Will you be out on the Tempest next weekend?

If any one fancies it this is on next weekend http://www.grizedalestages.co.uk/

We're doing a bit of marshalling and it gives me an excuse to get the X dirty driving along the stage to our marshalling post. Usually a brilliant day out in the Lakes. I've even got my mate coming over from Germany for it.

Excellent - used to marshal in Grizedale for the RAC. It helped that we lived in Bowness at the time :-)

I'm an MSA registered Rally Marshall .

I started as Spectator Marshal when I was at college (one of the lecturers was
Course Car in Sutton Park on the RAC in the 80's) then in early 90's got invited
to Rally Radio , which I did for many years . I was driving a Mk1 Mexico then .

I was on the RAC/Network Q/Rally Wales from about '82 til about '05 (formerly in the Mex
and then in a Sierra 2.9 4x4 specially converted for rallying)
But I kinda lost interest when it all went to Wales . Not that I don't like Wales or the stages
but part of the fun for me was the driving round all the different days in Midlands , Cumbria
etc .
It also started to get too expensive coz coming over from Lux for 4-5 days with
ferry , petrol , hotels/B&B's etc was almost like a family hols (without the family!!)

Still enjoy watching it though . Rally Germany in on my back door , Trier's only 30 mins drive
from Lux .

Ashley - are you out again on the Sunseeker? I'll be in Wareham, then over at Ringwood later.

Hi I was on Ringwood South again, but this year took my mates CRV. He got a puncture coming out of the stage! Very strange year this year, the new spec cars take a lot of the fun out of watching and also the groups with the big gaps inbetween didn't help with the flow of things.

Have only just seen this reply, it was, way back in 1999. I didn't know there was a local Motorsport club, do you know them?

Ringwood South :D we had a job to do in there so came through your stage later on 4pm-ish. Strangely enough the event Medical officer also has an X3 in silver, his is a 3.0sd though.

Have a look here: http://www.scmc.co.uk/ for info. I work on the Tempest and maybe some of the other events if there's time.
