Re: Debate (no not Masturbate Mogs!) - why did you buy the X
The rambling parts I have now moved to here so we can keep this one sort of on track.

Got mine at 34. Good Xmas bonus
Bought it because I wanted one, the 330d touring was getting a bit small for 2 labradors in the boot and at the time Red Ken and the government were scaring the public so the prices went down.
At the moment i cant think of anything else id rather have......got the motorbike for speed.......transit for work and commuting and the X for going to sainsburys

Re: Debate (no not Masturbate Mogs!) - why did you buy the X
Have always loved the X5 but the E70 finally tipped me over the edge.........that and almost going over the edge of a ditch in the E60 this winter just gone.........
Even after all of the problems I have had with my current (soon to be replaced) E70 I am getting another one..........once I knew I was going to replace the current I went again and checked everything.....Disco 4...(cant wait until next year to get to 60)....RRS and proper RR....Too boring and every see you next tuesday seems to own one........Cayenne looks like a slapped Halibut....even the new one......Audi's....either too big (Q7) or too small (Q5)......even looked at the new Toe rag.....just NNAAHHH and as for the Lexus RX.....well.........looked at the X6 as an alternative and thought I may as well buy a z4...
There is only one and that is the X5.........why......just because......

Re: Debate (no not Masturbate Mogs!) - why did you buy the X
Have owned numerous 4x4s over the past 20 years of motoring, before my first X I drove a Range Rover for 6 years, Jap 4x4s prior to that. Never enjoyed small cars and very used to the driving position of a 4x4. Rangie was getting on a bit and the seats were not particularly comofrtable - like a bench compared to the x! Looked at everyother 4x4 when searching for a replacement - they all either looked terrible or were boring or the seats were not comfortable for my partner, who has medical / mobility issues. The X5 felt just right and despite vowing never to become a BMW owner, I bought my first X5 in December 2009. Put winter wheels on it and it never missed a beat, and made the massive mileage treks I am doing at the moment much more pleasant than in the Rangie. It was a 3.0i and I was a bit wistful about my big V8, so was "just looking" at 4.8is AUC when I saw the one I now own....we both absolutely love it, and so does the dog.....and why the 4.8? Well, just because I can; I wanted it and I love driving it.

Re: Debate (no not Masturbate Mogs!) - why did you buy the X
We had moved back to the UK, had a few sporty numbers and a growing brood required a practical family hauler, after a completely misguided step back in 2000 in buying a Ford Explorer (uggg) we picked up an E53, which after many faithful years of service is now going to be making way for our new E70 Find the X to be all we need in terms of kids, dog (choc lab here as well PVR) and never really liked the others around though almost bought a rangie sport when it launched in 2005 glad we didnt
Not sure how we'll find the E70 (4.0d M Sport) -v- the 4.4 V8 - think i'll sorely miss it but have decided to maybe rectify that with a sporty number later this year if the money works out.

Re: Debate (no not Masturbate Mogs!) - why did you buy the X
Personally, I'd like to say how I got here... to owning an X5 that is.
It all started with 'borrowing' my mums Austin 1300 with the clap-o-meter speedo, excellent car and excellent heater...
From there:
Escort van Mk2 shed
Datsun 120Y
Cortina Mk4 2.0 GL
Fiesta 1.1 boy racer rally stylee
Escort Mk4 1.6 XR3i
Escort MK4 1.6 van
1972 Jag 4.2
Escort MK2 RS2000 droop nose, very modified engine/box with twin DCOE40's
Escort MK2 RS1600 Mexico - totally standard beauty
VW Beetle 1972
VW Bay Camper 1971
VW Beach Buggy 1969
Escort XR3i Cabrio = hairdressers car
Vauxhall Vectra 1.6 something 1997
Vauxhall Frontera 2.5 TDi 1997
Vectra SRi
Nissan Terrano 2.4?
Various hire cars or short leases
Renault Laguna 1.6 with alcantara lol
Mercedes C180K (Promoted)
BMW 323i saloon
Volvo FL60 Saxon Bodied Fire Appliance/Tender/Engine
VW Beetle 2.0i - wifey car
BMW X5 4.4i
That's about it, not compelling or exciting (except the RS's & maybe the fire engine) but the X5 was a kind of a transition into the luxury arena, now I enjoy the luxury of throwing my hard earned cash at it on a monthly basis.
Great car, but I want something else now, despite being probably the oldest git on here I still hanker for speed lol......

Slightly back on topic
TT in for some pre holiday checks and was lent the DP's A6 3.0Tdi SLine
Have to say as a wafting mobile it was very comfortable and a big ground cover. Much more comfortable than the X5.
he is taking it to Spa for the GP this weekend and I think he will arrive there quite fresh

Searching the archives, bearing in mind the Escorts are more likely on actual photos and not digital yet.
The Fire engine is now retired to a limo company in Penryn Cornwall, however I will also dig out some pics...
Making a rod for my own back is one of my traits - clearly

Re: Debate (no not Masturbate Mogs!) - why did you buy the X
Why did we buy the X5? The missuss drove the old 325 into a deep puddle in the 2007 floods and I said never again, and it was also a good excuse to get what I'd wanted as well. Just sold the X5 but bought leasing another one here in Canada - more need for 4 wheel drive in the winter months here - and an X5 is not a big car by North American standards

Re: Debate (no not Masturbate Mogs!) - why did you buy the X
Why did we buy an X5 ? well I had an Audi A4 avant before which was a really good car and went like stink; however with me being 6ft 4 and the misses 5ft 11 and two sons on a similar track we needed more room.So I started looking across the 4 by 4 range.... Q7 to much money for me.....Didnt like the standard range rover with the sport again being out of my price range....looked at the Japs but didn't like the build quality...Finally I looked at the X and it ticked all the boxes; however I was a bit worried about the problems you can have with transmissions so found one that had been rebuilt. I love the truck, its nice to drive and its safe,so there you go.
