Help paring iPhone 4 with Bluetooth
Help paring iPhone 4 with Bluetooth
Hi all,
I was reading through old posts on Xdrivers regarding paring iPhones with Bluetooth and I'm having a nightmare getting this activated. I've done all the procedure required and when I pick up the BMW BT request I click on join and type in my passkey, however its not allowing me to join, I have removed all the old users and according to one of the posts you need to use 6 digits for the iphone passkey which I done and still no joy. Fecking nightmare!

Re: Help paring iPhone 4 with Bluetooth
Enter passcode, wait till the display says paired. Then turn the ignition off, then back on again.
Your phone should then connect.

Re: Help paring iPhone 4 with Bluetooth
Thats the problem Phil, its saying paring unsuccessful........
Re: Help paring iPhone 4 with Bluetooth
I've successfully paired my 4S using the standard procedure and 4 digit passkey. May sound strange but is it the correct passkey? It should always be the same key no matter what phone.
Re: Help paring iPhone 4 with Bluetooth
Its the right PassKey provided with owners manual.
My wife has an old Nokia phone so I'll try and see if that works.

Re: Help paring iPhone 4 with Bluetooth
It should be a 4 digit pin no. Mine was on a card with the car's handbook. Is that the one you are using?

Re: Help paring iPhone 4 with Bluetooth
Thats the very one...... I was under the impression that the X5 only had bluetooth from 2005 onwards, however mines a 2004 and its got BT installed. Its all very odd.
Re: Help paring iPhone 4 with Bluetooth
Mine's a 2003 and has it.
When you the car into pairing mode are you getting "bluetooth paring" on the cars display?
"Activate Phone" is not the same

Re: Help paring iPhone 4 with Bluetooth
Good question! I'll check that its displaying bluetooth paring.
Re: Help paring iPhone 4 with Bluetooth
Are you doing the full procedure?
Key in, ignition at 0
Press and hold the button in the armrest (for 10 secs IIRC)
Whilst still holding the button, turn the ignition on
Wait a few seconds, then release the button, mid should display BLUETOOTH PAIRING
Enter the 4 digit code on the phone, once successful, turn the ignition OFF.

Good point. It's 3 seconds in position 0 then keeping holding for another 3 seconds when turned to position 1.

Re: Help paring iPhone 4 with Bluetooth
Right!! I just checked this again as I'm only back from work (the joys of being a city boy) and its displaying BlueTooth Pairing, so I tried to use my wifes old Nokia phone and it didn't work?? So the iPhone still isn't working...... I might have to dig through the boot and see if the bluetooth is working. Has anyone had this problem before? I'm coming across like a complete Technophobe, which is far from the case, however I'm just not having a good time of it with this X5!!!
Re: Help paring iPhone 4 with Bluetooth
Hi,
May seem daft question but check you have 'telephone' option showing on OBD screen ?
I paired my iphone 4 no problem but then it stopped connecting when I got in the car, tried re-pairing with no joy & then realized the telephone option had disappeared for the OBD. I pulled the fuse for the bluetooth ( one of the fuses in the boot, cant remember which one ) to check it was ok, re-fit it & the telephone option was back, phone paired up no problem. I have no idea why is disappeared though ?
Hope you get it sorted.
Phil.

The only thing I can really think of is the passkey is not the correct one. Maybe the unit has been replaced and so a different code is now to be used??

BT pass key is actually on the module in the boot if you need to check it. If you do a search I think there is a thread with pics on. Saying that, either Sanj or X555 will probably be along shortly and post a link for you.
