Thinking about doing this as part of my next service (swapped the breather for newer vortex one last service).

Has anyone done a write-up on cleaning EGR that I could reference or do I just have to blindly start ripping stuff apart? :)

Cheers,

~S.

EGR Valve = Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve.

The EGR valve helps your car more efficiently and completely burn fuel by recirculating a portion of your exhaust and running it through the combustion process again. This results in a cooler, more complete burn of the fuel which decreases you car's noxious emissions by prohibiting the formation of some harmful gases.

Using Google.

Just take your time so as not to drop the two awkward bolts as with the undertray in place it'd be a pain to retrieve them. They're not too hard to access if you have a decent selection of extensions though I was a bit wary getting one back in without dropping it. There is also a fairly strange jubilee clip with two metal bits welded on holding on the pipe on the left. One weld had gone on mine and I ended up completely undoing the clip. Mine has only done 20,000 miles but there was still quite a lot of gunk in it. I also cleaned where it enters the manifold which had a thick layer on too.

There is talk about this on XOutpost saying that you can effectively leave the valve off by leaving the vacuum pipe off (I don't know if you'd need to blank it off). Apparently this will adversely affect emissions but might be better in other respects. I've not tried it though.

Maybe the previous owner thought it was the dump valve.... Rofl

If your car performance is poor so it must be some problem with your EGR valve. So you must clean your EGR valve. To clean your EGR valve you have to first take out it and than clean it. To remove it first of all you have to do is disconnected it from the wired connection like vacuum tube and green wire connected to it. Than after remove the gasket and than unbolt it with the screw driver. Than take out the EGR valve, That's it, EGR valve is in your hand now you can clean EGR valve with the help of the toothbrush and some liquid.
