Webasto heater diesel info needed yes or no
Re: Webasto heater diesel info needed yes or no
Hi fenj66 thanks for the informatiom regarding my wabasto heater ,
but i think my next step is to get my OBC aux heating enabled like evoblue has before winter, Malc1950
for me this wasnt as simple as just enabling the option with a scanner. mine wouldnt work this way until i used an older webasto circuit board, only now it works fine from the obc timers.
make sure you read all the old threads on the aux heater subject, i have explained a little more there.

I read somewhere that after a certain date (early 2000's), BMW moded the Webasto pcb away from the generic Webasto board - and that that explains the operability issue. Glad you got yours sorted - I am in the same postion as you were - out of interest, where did you source your alternative board?

Re: Webasto heater diesel info needed yes or no
i got my circuit board by buying a complete second hand webasto on ebay. i specifically looked for something circa year 2000 from either an x5 or e39.
i just swapped out the circuit board ( easy) and have a webasto for spares now also.

To throw some confusion into the mix if it is a diesel there will be a webasto heater. All diesel have aux heating. Warming the car interior via remote is park heating. I believe the park heating is only available on the thermotop C due to it having an additional circulation pump fitted to the webasto unit which circulates hot coolant through the heater matrix. I'm waiting for another phone call from webasto Doncaster to confirm this. To add further confusion some of us have checked to see if we have c or z and found that the lable on the front says z and on the side it says c.

The Webasto circ pump is remote from the Webasto heater on the X5 - and located immediately in front of the ABS pump unit.

You'll find the pump down by the radiator pushes coolant through the cylinder block. The webasto c has an additional pump for pushing coolant around the heater matrix

http://www.techwebasto.com/heater_main/5000918A.pdf
page 7 shows the additional parts required to convert a supplemental heater into a preheater.
Item 41 part no 930009A - circulation pump
Item 43 part no 91743C - wiring harness.

the additional water pump mounted on the thermo top c variant clearly is a red herring to this debate, as mine doesnt have it and the other pump mentioned near the radiator pumps the coolant around the engine block and also the heater matrix as my interior heats up when its on.

Fair enough. Ill let Webasto know there mistake when they ring back as they have miss-informed me in that case. I wonder what the parts refer too also. I will get this cleared up. Thanks for the input.

Agreed - the hot water out-putted from the Webasto runs to the heater matrix (via the valve set under the Webasto), the return from the matrix runs to the circ pump inlet, the circ pump oulet tees into the block jacket at the front of the engine - and a jacket outlet at the RHS of the block runs back to the Webasto inlet.

I'm so confused with all the aux heater talk stuff
Firstly, Can anybody confirm what the standard Aux Ventilation option with the timers does on the obc?
Does this alone not allow the car to be warmed when set on timer on a cold morning?

the standard aux vent just blows cold air into the cabin. its intended for sunnier climates to help cool down a car been stood in the sun before you get in it. totally useless for the uk market i would say!

Thanks fenj66
So if my understanding is correct, I need to enable aux heating via a scanner and I need replace the pcb with a pcb from an older model e39 or e53 that will allow the aux heating to work on timer, if I don't want to mess around with setting up a remote control for the heater?

in a nutshell, yes! well at least thats how i finally got mine working. i assume your is a facelift model and the aux heater works properly anyway (ticking noise heard on cold mornings?)
