Amplifier recommendation

Post by f_asiimwe » Thu Nov 03, 2011 2:54 pm

Hi all,

I recently acquired an enclosure from X555 and have got the focal sub that was recommended but a few members on this forum.
However,am having a problem making a choice for the amplifier to go with it.

Sanj recommended a 2 channel bridgeable amp with frequency variation dial, and small in size to nicely fit in the space but i have been looking through website after website trying to narrow things down but it has not been easy. Anyone has a particular one that they are using and works well for them, am willing to listen.

I would appreciate recommendations.

Thank you all.

Now that is just slanderous, some of us can do a tidy install, I think Sanj can confirm this.

I think my install is 'titier' anyway

guys, any of you able to help me figure this out?

i'm trying to connect an amp. i've got the amp powered up (live, ground, signal all ok), and when i try to connect the first RCA, the moment i connect the outer wire (not the centre wire, the one on the outer - if you know what i mean), the radio goes silent! remove the outer cable and re-start the radio and it works.

let me give a bit more info on my issue pls:

I have a 2004 X5 with nav, cd changer, no dsp. and i'm trying to install an amp+sub(JBL).

i've got power, ground, on/off connected all ok.

issue is when connecting the sound/signal to the amp (RCAs)

i've got the speaker outs from the factory BM54 as below:
http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/ste ... ation.html

so basically the rear right + rear left.

when i connect one of those to the first RCAs inner the sub starts working; but the moment i connect the first RCA outer wire itself the radio knocks itself out.

and i have to remove that outer, and restart the radio to get any sound from it.

amp works if i connect only the inner cable of the RCA but that's no good because then it gives out ambient noise (i believe because then its not properly grounded?).

can anyone help me understand what i'm doing wrong here pls?

Do you have a high to low level converter to change the speaker outs to suit the amp input?

No i don't.

i just tapped onto the high level output which goes to the rear speakers and connected them to the RCAs of the new amp which drives my sub.

my factory amp is a BM54, and what i'm trying to fix for the sub is a JBL:
http://www.thebassbin.co.uk/product.php?id=3424

is that the problem?

thx, merry xmas!

I'm stuffed - lunch was perfect!

OK - you have to tap into the REAR woofers (they get the low-end frequency). So when you use the amp it must have the filter set to low.

So - rear left will have a positive and a negative and rear right the same. That's 4 cables.

The RCA when split will have a left and right and then an inner (positive) and outer (negative). There's your 4.

Now connect them and keep the gain to a minimum and the filter set to low - the sub should have no vocals coming through it.
