I found on my old E39 the angel eye lights would strobe every few minutes as theybulb out test constantly monitors for a blow bulb. I don't know if it's different on the E53 as I disabled the checks with BMW scanner when I fitted them.

My E46 flashes the indicator side repeaters every min or so as they are LED's.

You can turn checks off with BMW scanner... Can't remember if it's cold checks or hot checks
