New Zorsts

Post by pvw10 » Sat Oct 22, 2011 3:37 pm

Am going to take the 3.0d to have new rear silencers fitted with exhausts that exit through the knock out panels, as should have been from new IMHO.I am going for a very slight sporty sound not a boy racer jobby as i just want the look and the benefit of less gas restriction due to back pressure.

Question is peoples i cant decide between large ovals that will fill out the knock outs or big round ones like the new X5's, whats your thoughts please ?

Personally I wouldnt have either as I think the lack of pipes nicely displays the slightly greener credentials of the E53 3.0d compared to the petrol engined models.

If I did have same. then this would only be if insurance company informed, in agreement & premium adjustments were acceptable to me..............purely to avoid any later expense &/or dispute re cover post any accident, (if vehicle inspected).

If I had to choose I guess I would go for twin rounds like the 4.4i. Large ovals like 4.6is & 4.8is in abscence of 4.6is/4.8is bodykit will IMO simply make the car look, (in eyes of some), wrong. Tailpipes that don't look factory will have a similar effect. If important top you I wouild also consider any future resale issues.

All above my opinion only & not a personal attack. I accept that it is your car to do with as you see with & a matter for you as to what makes you happy in ownership.

I appreciate the comments may be seen as harsh & accept the above may be my opinion only. Some may agree but might choose to not publicly air their opinions, (perhaps to avoid causing you any offence).

Good Luck sorting this whatever you decide upon :)

Inside there is a happy person hiding...... I only mentioned the worst case scenarios for your consideration. I suspect you might be less concerend with such issues than some ;)

My comments a little toungue in cheek - there is occasional & slight humour in some of my postings, you just have to decipher it :)

Would it fail an MOT with that though as the E53 does not have the particle filter hence the "bend down" pipes?

Buy a 4.6 or 4.8 in the first place, that way you dont have to prat about & you have the look from factory anyway.

Although i will admit i wished i had actually bought the diesel in hindsight, because the fuel bills ruin me.

Never understood why beemer blanked them off on the diesel, because the later e70 models have them outward facing now anyway.

A wee bit expensive to replace the car for that reason :O)

Yes your right not the most cost effective idea, there is a post on here of a 3.0d with similar tips to the is models that looks really effective & as i have said i think the diesel suits the car characteristics better than a big petrol with the torque it offers.

Post some pics up if you can when you have done it,i think the exhausts tips do look nice but some prefer a cleaner look.

I didn't mean for my post to be abrasive or rude.

I merely highlighted points that I would consider & which I felt were worthy of mention.

OP's car & choices - not mine.
