Glow plug light ?

Post by B5tew » Thu Oct 20, 2011 11:01 am

Hi I have had problems with my car not starting for the past 2 days it is only when it is cold so I am thinking it could be Glow plugs.
Should there be a warning light come on to say the glow plugs are working.
Sorry if I am being a bit thick but this is the first diesel car I have had and all diesels I have driven in the past had a light that came on on the dash and you waited for it to go out before starting the engine.
Thanks in advance

There is a glow plug light on the dash, but usually that goes out very quickly so you don't really notice it.

When it is really cold, it will stay on for a few seconds. You would definately see it though if it needed glowing.

Glow plug light ?

Post by Rusty » Thu Oct 20, 2011 4:48 pm

I had five of my six glowplugs open circuit without any warning lights. They can only be diagnosed via a scanner or software.
I would def replace all six at the same time as they are not the easiest to get to and if one goes, odds on the rest will follow.

Mine was starting fine but started even better with them changed.

Good luck.

Same as Russ....i had four or five gone and had no probs major starting but was better after replacing them. You will have to have a diagnostics check done to reveal which ones need replacing.

Had the car diagnosed today and NO 6 glowplug is faulty and egr valve is showing a fault. Codes cleared and going to get it read again in a couple of days.
Going to get all 6 glowplugs done as the manifold has to come off to do it.
