Cleaned out my washer bottle & filters, but.........

Thanks for the tip. Popped into Lidl yesterday. Stocked up on 2 x 5 litre bottles at a fiver each. Quite impressed in that the stuff claims to be made in Germany - and presumably shipped in. Long way to be transporting fluid priced at that level.

Indeed.I did notice that the woman paying in front of me bought two bottles of spirits by emptying a bag of loose change whilst muttering contentedly to herself.
It's not my regular but it does sometimes have genuine bargains. I bought a ski helmet last year for my son which cost £20. Mine (a Giro) cost £110, is virtually identical and his is better with exactly the same EU and TUV approvals. I'm also told that their battery chargers are made by CTEK and cost much less.

Update..........

New sensor arrived.

Unit came with a black hose/sleeve over the sensor element.

I have fitted same & I am still getting "washer fluid low" message

Does anyone know answer to the following........


Is the black sleeve on the sensor supposed to be kept on or removed (to protect the sensor element), when fitted ?

Thoughts are maybe it should be removed - my original did not have a sleeve fitted.

My fear is that I reckon I may have damaged my washer bottle float by aggressive flusing method. When removed I placed small quantity of shingle into same and part filled with water then shook same vigorously in order to remove grime from inside the bottle- never had a problem before but I may have damage the float.

Any other thoughts appreciated.

From previous experience with other cars the fluid level detection is done by conductivity through the water between two pins. I guess if you have a cover on it this may not work.

I'd remove the sleeve as there isn't normally one on them when I've looked before.

With a sleeve, the contact would not be made between the sensor points. No contact means no water as that is what provides the means to connect the points.

Did you connect the plug on the tank properly as well ...

Wish i could help fella but as yet i haven't replaced this part........ though i am taking notes just in case

Thanks for all responses

Now sorted..............

I removed the cover on the element & still no joy, ( yes the reservoir was full btw).

I then removed the whole bottle and emptiede same.

On closer inspection I noticed the green collar to the float , (visible inside the reservoir via the opened filler). I noticed it seemed at a slanted/tipped angel in relation to the white nylon chamber/cap type affair in centre of same.

Using a ring spanner I carefully manouvered and turned the green collar. At first it seemed firm but after some gentle persuasion tapping same with the ring spanner I managed to get it to turn. On so turning same it became orientated and sat level 2 bits of grit fell out so I can only assume my aggressive regime caused the flot colar to become dislodged/jammed.

Anyway I suspect it was the float mechanism &/or collar to same & now sorted.

Of course this means my sensor was not needed other than to eleiminate same as what was trhe suspected cause.

i managed to dmamage my original sensor/switch in my earlier trial & error triials.

Oh well..................all good now & saved me buying a new reservoir.

Amazing how a simple job can soon become time consuming & problematic.
