New steering wheel needed

Post by clats » Thu Oct 06, 2011 10:14 pm

Hi all the steering wheel on my 54 plate X5 is looking very poor and tired. How easy s it to replace for a new wheel like for like. I dont want any after market stuff just a genuine replacment. I have looked in the usual ebay etc but cant see any. Anyone know how much a new wheel would be and any good places to source one apart from man dealer

I've bought a couple of wheels from him and he is a very good ebayer. Brand new wheel and very straight forward to fit.

Looking at the picture it does seem that's an E70/71 Current gen X5M, X6 & X6M wheel and I can't see that being a straight swap for the E53 as the wheel electrics are different, not to mention that you will also need an updated airbag. Flappy paddles are only just being released for the E70 LCI OEM.

Apart from it being a copy, it looks like my X6 wheel. I would not think it's suitable for the E53 at all. I'm not sure the seller understands how the BMW 'E' numbers run.

That wheel is a new gen E70/E71 so will not fit an E53.

if it's just looking old, shiny etc have you tried giving it a good clean? if you soak a clean cloth, then microwave for 4 minutes (wear gloves, it's really hot) then give your wheel a really thorough clean it'll come up a treat. Makes it much less shiny.
Obviously won't help if it's the design your getting bored of ;-)
