3.0D Fuel Injection Warning at high Revs

Post by psenior1 » Thu Sep 15, 2011 11:00 pm

Had the X5 for a few months and love it, but having an issue with the fuel inection system, any advice would be much appreciated.

Warning comes up when booting it, ie at full throttle when it hits around 4k RPM. It first did this once a few weeks ago after it was run quite low on fuel (around 20 miles range left), light pinged up when I was leaving the services at full whack. Its not done it since until tonight (to be fair I dont often get the chance to put my foot down), now everytime I hit 4k rpm on comes the light, switch the engine off and drive 'normally' and its fine.

Is it worth me changing the diesel filter (easy to get to?) or is that just wishful thinking!

Hi mate

Possible fuel filter or failing that it is possibly the pre supply fuel pump (located under the floor pan of the car) starting to fail and unable to deal with the demand at hard throttle.
I would get the fault codes read first though to give an indication where the fault lies rather than throw parts at it.

cheers for the replies, I've got a fuel filter now so will replace that and see if it makes any difference, if not I'll get the codes read. The low pressure pump under the passenger side floor pan was replaced a couple of months ago (it was starting to buzz loudly), so don't think it will be that...

Good luck with the filter, did you use a genuine pump or a budget one ? I have had this problem in the past with cheaper pumps .. Just a thought. Also was the relay replaced (behind glovebox) as these are also problematic .
Hope the filter sorts it for you.

it was Bosch pump from GSF, certainly wasn't cheap! Didn't do the relay, will bear it in mind for future, thanks.
