BALDGUYs E53 4.4

Post by baldguy » Thu Aug 25, 2011 2:02 pm

So i've now had the X for just over 3 months and have spent a small fortune on it... I didnt have half as many issues with my previous V8 Grand Cherokee, but i simply love this car, its my daily driver... So here are a couple of pics when i picked it up...

and here is what it looks like now but has BMW centre caps fitted now to the 20's, Black grills and later inner tail lights..

So since i've had it, i've done the following to it...

Full B service to include plugs
Valley pan gasket, rocker gaskets, total breather system renewal, most coolant pipes renewed, water pump removed and refitted due to incorrect fitment by previous owner, expansion tank and cap renewed
Gearbox out for oil leak remedy, full gasket and seal renewal
Radio module repair - re-solder dry joints
Full set of wiper blades
Full geometry allignment
New 20" wheels and tyres
Wide screen satnav screen
Mk4 DVD retrofit
V32 and 2011 map upgrade
New later spec inner tailgate lights
Full mudflap kit
Ashtray delete package
Black Kidney grills

To do....

Headlight mod
Centre exhaust box delete
M style steering wheel

I think thats about it..... Not bad for a 10 year old E53 with 89k miles, I have every single MOT cert and all history. However when i got it, it had been used as a family charriott with baby food etc all over seats and dog smell throughout...

Oh and heres my other toy.....

Loving the 996 C4S.............Good X5 how you want it too.

Have you increased darkness on the tints ? Difficult to tell as first pics have more reflections.

Thanks guys... nope AW8.. tints are the same, the pics are taken at my gym where there is loads of tree cover.. so makes it darker... the fronts are done though, although with the legal lightest and it does look good IMHO...

Another £600 just spent at BMW... New radiator, engine block pressure test and full coolant system pressure test.... Was monitoring a small radiator leak that I'd fill every week, however that then turned into a daily fill.... Bit the bullet and had it all fixed.. Also needed a new bottom hose that had been glued at some time!!!
So that's the total coolant system done now... Had a new water pump fitted before I bought it, and I've fitted expansion tank and now the near radiator.....

Grrr.... BMW have just raped me for another 700 quid as it decided to split another hose under the inlet manifold last week... They also replaced a crack unit on the back of the manifold that was letting in air.. As much as I like this car its the most un-reliable car I have owned.... Spent too much on it to get rid of it or it wuld be replaced by an RS6 Avant... Might still next year!!

Also deleted the centre box now... so it sounds more like a V8 should now...

On a brighter note... the 996 C4s hardtop has gone to be replaced with this.....
