Tracker or No tracker???
Hi
Seem to remember on the old site that there was a number you could phone to find out if your X has a tracer fitted at any time?
Any one know it??
I have found a grey box in the car, very securely fixed with 2 twisted pair cables coming from it, but cannot trace their ends (yet)
Definitely not standard fitment as No ID or label on it so think it may be something along the lines?
any help appreciated.
Cheers

Re: Tracker or No tracker???
You could try the main tracker companies - I thought my 4.8 would have had one fitted almost by default as they were apparently uninsurable without when new, but unbelieveably, even the dealer was unable to find a company who admitted to fitting one in the car:D They told me they had tried the main companies who supply the service.
In the end my brokers found me insurance that didn't require a tracker - BMW Insurance actually had a better quote (around £50 less) but wanted a tracker. I don't think there is a central number to call as there are several companies who do them, in competition with one another, but I'm still interested to know about the lack of one on my 4.8. Suppose someone may have removed it.

Where is the box located?
I have a grey box (about the size of a cig packet) located at the top of the rack where the Sat Nave/CD changer etc are located.
This is actually the aerial for the Traffic Master system that I have in the car. I'm not sure when BMW stopped fitting TM to their cars, so it may not apply to yours.
My tracker is located else where - if you want to know where PM me!!

Tracker or No tracker???
I found a tracker fitted in my 4.8 down behind the tv module. It was about the size of a cig packet not sure of colour though. Called INS but they would only offer 1p discount, yes 1p. So didn't bother getting it activated.
Re: Tracker or No tracker???
Just fitted one today in my dads X3. Not a requirement in nl, so was just done for fun. I can now track the car anywhere on the web.

Re: Tracker or No tracker???
Was just curious to know what it may be..
Its approx 6 inches long by 2 inch wide by 1.5 inch deep, grey box with 2 lots of quite thin twsted pair...
It's mounted below one of the plastic floor parts in the boot!
I am toying with one of those online jobs where i can see it or by sms to shut engine down.
Just for the fun element that is....
Obviously wouldnt do that if someone was driving it without my permission.
that would be the jam the throttle down and aim for the nearest tree function so they couldnt do it to anyone elses!!!!!
(allegedly)

Re: Tracker or No tracker???
There was a tracker fitted in my Alfa Romeo 147 GTA - I never bothered to activate it.
When I sold it the new owner enquired and was advised of monthly costs to run system and that his insurance premium would be increased!!!

I wonder why the premiums get increased? Unless of course the 'pro thieves' have detectors looking for the signals and rip things apart looking for it?
Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.
Re: Tracker or No tracker???
I heard that before and even with active trackers, it is cheaper to not mention it to the insurance company now ....

Me to. Luckily I already had one fitted when I bought it so just had to transfer the details. Seams to work, I got a call from the tracker people as I was changing my battery telling me the battery had been disconnected. Only took a couple of minutes for the alert.
