Warranty Direct

Post by richjt » Thu Sep 15, 2011 8:35 pm

Anyone thinking of changing their car and transferring their warranty direct policy to their new car beware.
I took out my warranty on my 2002 4.4 x5 earlier this year, when i was thinking of changing to a diesel x5 i rang wd to ask about transferring my warranty to my next car, no problem they said you can either transfer to your new one or leave on your old car to increase the selling power either option there will be a £50 fee. Being as mine was up in April 2012 i thought I'll keep it and transfer it, i called them yesterday and was left speechless, you have to cancel your current policy (£50 charge) they then give you back what is left on your policy in this case £39.80, all that is left out of a £499 policy with nearly 8 months to run, you then have a new quote but you can knock £39.80 off as you have got that coming back from your old policy. Personally i think it is a total sham

£50 charge to cancel a policy? How on earth do they come up with that little gem?

I don't suppose I'll be getting anything back for cancelling my (now sold) E53 policy then! I agree, this sounds like a scam. Blasted insurance companies!! :headbang: :fuelfire:

I'll remember this little tidbit at renewal time on the other car. :headbang:

Just cancelled the X5 policy. It's been running for 4 months so they take 60% of the premium and THEN charge a £50 cancellation fee on top. As you say, good scam and an expensive 'button' as all they need to do is press it once for 'Cancel Policy'.

I don't think we'll go anywhere near them again at renewal time. Mind you that probably means they'll charge £100 for not renewing. No wonder they're policies are cheaper, they clobber those who have the nerve to sell the cars mid year!! :headbang: :headbang:
£600+ is alot of parts
Not on an X5 it isn't

1.5 tyres and a can of touch up paint

Just messing but I know what you're saying. I was quoted £1500 a year and I would need to get it serviced by a VAT reg garage which I don't do as do my own most of the time and at 10yrs old with 110k I can't say I'm bothered by the effect on resale values due to DIY servicing, I decided to keep the money in my pocket instead.

Most of the maintenance I've needed doing is not warranty stuff anyway: brakes, bushes, ball joints, coolant change etc just regular maintenance.

I agree they're a bunch of shysters - I had exactly the same thing with my 3.0i, I'd taken out a WD policy which had only run for 4 months when I bought a BMW AUC 4.8is - all I got back from the £400+ policy after the scam "deductions" etc was less than £50 :( A lesson for all - they seem very plausible and promise you the earth (and have expensive ads on telly as well) but I won't be ripped off by them again, once bitten and all that!!!
