It's that time of year again...winter tyre threads

Post by CondorX5 » Wed Sep 07, 2011 11:21 am

Inevitably, the same questions pop up on a seasonal basis and we must have a dozen old threads on winter tyres on the forum, a lot of which is repetetive, ie what tyre is the best / what size wheels will fit etc etc - perhaps it's time to consider a Sticky for Winter Wheels which amalgamates some of the existing threads? I have a BMW Tyre and Wheel brochure from last year with all the correct info and have an interest, as AW8, pvr and others, in using appropriate winter wheels, so I try to help out when these new (but very old!) questions pop up...... perhaps a Sticky, please, AW8 / pvr??? The same thing happened at BMWLand and that sticky is a very active and popular one!! :D

I agree with your comments.

Are you volunteering to create a sticky post that can be incorporated within a one stop & remaining active discussion thread ? ;)

If a sticky is created,(perhaps by cut pasting useful info), then other threads could be locked & with a link the the sticky. It would be difficult to merge all useful threads as discussion content specific to individuals render the much of new thread content out of context.

Thoughts....... ?

Agreed - a lot of discussion on the threads arose from individual questions. I think your way forward is the best solution to bringing the Winter Wheel threads to a single discussion - people would still find the locked threads if they search, but everyone would be directed to a new single Sticky on Winter Wheels as well. The single thread on Winter tyres and wheels seems to work well as a sticky elsewhere.

Just to add - didn't reply to the last part of your post   I've got the official BMW Brochure on wheel and tyre sizes and types etc, so can put this in a single post as a summary if that will be helpful - will do it this evening if it will be helpful. I've got E53 and E70 info, possibly X3 and X6 as well, but will concentrate on the X5 for now.

Thanks :) :)
