Changed my rear disc's and pads today, no dramas, whole thing went without a hitch, well until I went to start the car.
I had the boot open all day and it must have drained the battery as the car would not start, got nothing when turning the key.
Got a jump start and the car started but the 4x4 light in the centre of the instrument cluster came on, now I know this can happen when the battery dies and the fix is to move the steering wheel full lock in each direction. This has corrected this issue for me in the past when I have disconnected the battery.
However this time the light is still on. I have driven about 30 miles and the light is still on.
What else could it be ?
Cheers

Hi mate
Once the battery is charged try disconnecting it for 20mins , both cables to do a software reset, then reconnect and try the lock to lock calibration again.
This should do the trick.
Good luck

Re: 4x4 light on after brake change and dead battery
As suggested, try a battery reset. Really easy one this - move the steering fully from one lock to the other whilst at very low forward speed (saves loading the steering components), and the light should go out. This is a standard reset whenever a battery disconnect is done.

Can I charge the battery via the jump points under the bonnet, or do I need to do it directly to the battery ?

I always use those points too. A lot easier than an expedition into the bootspace!

Re: 4x4 light on after brake change and dead battery
Started the car up this afternoon to turn it round to get the front near the garage and the 4x4 light went out as normal.
Charged the battery up anyway as it only had a 30 min drive yesterday after I did the brakes.
Thanks all for your help.

Top Tip..........when working on the car with the boot open for long periods use a screwdriver/car keys or anything available and push it into the lock mech. This will close the boot lock mech and will turn off the boot lights etc
It doesn't take long for the battery to drain on these beasts.....been there done that
