Strange Gearbox Behaviour 4.8is !!!

Post by Neil48is » Sun Aug 28, 2011 7:58 pm

Right,i've managed to get a few miles on the car since i finished it. One thing i have noticed is that when the gearbox is cold it tends to hold onto 1st gear till approx 3-3.5k Revs and when the box is warm it tends to change up too early. I find the car "bogging" down at low speeds in sharp bends, junctions etc. It never seems to be in the right gear. If i use the car in manual all the gears select just fine. Could this just be down to needing new fluid and filter in the box or is it potentially more serious??!!!! :o

The transmission has both a 'cold' and 'warm' program. The cold one holds onto the revs longer than normal.

not knowing how the 4.8 behaves normally I'm not sure of what to suggest. Others with that engine/gearbox combo may be able to assist. What I do know though is that the gearbox in the 4.8 is the same as the 3.0d (torque requirements neatly match) and mine ties not do that.

if you know anyone with a code reader, it's probably worth a quick check though.

Thanks for the reply,so it seems like the long first gear could be normal,i wasn't aware of the cold program. As for the other part, i have tried resetting the adaptation values in INPA and GT1 but this hasn't made much difference. I think i will try the fluid and filter change next, although i am reluctant to pay to pay the extortionate £20+ a litre :x
