Hi all,
Where is the best (cheapest) place to take my key to get a new battery?
My main one works but the spare is dead!
Cheers

Re: Key needs new battery
Hi,
Are you sure it is dead, I thought mine was dead, but someone on the forum advised me to charge it and then reprogramme it. It now works.

They dont have batteries as far as I'm aware as they charge from the car. There are instructions on key paring here but I'm on the iPhone so can't search for you at moment sorry.

Re: Key needs new battery
What are we looking at here? Ignition key for E53 or newer E70 type key?
If E53 then it's a rechargeable battery inside the fob and they need to be connected to the car's ignition barrel to charge (leave it for more than 2 months and expect them to discharge). Most keys can be recharged if you put them into the barrel and go for a 45min run. If not, they can be replaced if the board is OK, see the link below:

If the board is dead and a replacement battery does not work, buy a new key off eBay with a working board and split the key, take the board out, stick it in your old key case. You need this as it has the all important transponder in it (to start the car).
NOTE: This is for the old style E53 key only.
