Help Me Diagnose my X5 Please?

Post by lordviper » Sun Jul 24, 2011 10:37 pm

hi guys,
over the last few days my car feels like its begun to die.
theres been no warnings or funny noises but suddenly it felt really slow and wouldnt change gears?
the revs would go really high but no gear change.
even if i put my foot right down the car does not go above 30mph until after 15-20seconds.

im in london and keen to get this fixed as my wife is due to have our first baby any day now.
but im not too keen on stealership prices.

any and all help is appreciated.

thanks guys!

Sorry to hear of problems.

In abscence of posted info &/or signature info I don't know what engine & box car you have. I trawled your posts but couldnt see anything there to clarify matters either.

If your not technically skilled &/or havent managed to secure the BMW scanner you posted about a few months back then I would say your best bet would be to take it to a reputable independent, (indy),BMW specialist for a proper diagnostic inspection & fault code check.

Indy prices should be up to around 50% of those of main dealer before any main dealer discount but perhaps 1st call to get hourly rate if concerned re labour charges. Don't expect a price for work in abscence of catr being diagnosed.

I wont speculate further other than to say some might guess or suspect a gearbox/torque convertor issue.

Help Me Diagnose my X5 Please?

Thanks for the response.
I have an 03 3.0 litre diesel.
It's done 60k and has a full BMW service history.
But I just can't justify injecting too much money into it, especially with the little one on the way and because it's our second car.

I have a BMW scanner 1.4 but am not that proficient with it. I only bought it to make it beep when I locked it! Haha!

Any ideas on the issue, cost of a fix and a recommended Indy would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again!

I think wilkoturbo means the post on this clicky

Don't accept this as meaning this is the problem with your car, however, it's something to consider.

I don't use an indy in London. Despite knowing of a few names I don't feel comfortable recommending these 3rd hand without being able to give 1st hand testimony myself.

The following link gives various BMW garage & indy reviews & kind courtesy of a Mr Burns....... To view the reviews click here

Hourly labour rates can vary & individual garages can quote &/charge varying times for similar work..........of course the issue for you is you cant be certain how long the work should or will take as you don't know the specific problem or how to fix it.

One last bit of advice. By all means mention that you a little forum research suggests a possibility as to the problem but don't tell them what is wrong without them seeing the car or ask for a quote without them seeing it.

Hi Guys,
so i took it to a gearbox specialist and they said they couldnt find any faults with the gear box.
the only fault codes found are the following;
-DME/DDE (Motor/Diesel Electronics) 2F
-ZKE/GM (Central Body electronics) 1F
-IHKA/IHKR (Integrated Heating) 2F
-AUC Sensor 0A

Can anyone help me make sense of the codes please?
Coincidentally the car hasnt been experiencing issues of late. but if it needs a fix id rather get it done now.

Thanks.
