Thats alot of work you had done there Dan. The suspension on the x5 is expensive to say the least.

Do you mind me asking what it cost to replace all the parts?
Sorry I dont have a clue how much it cost as it was all done under warranty. I imagine a couple of grand atleast through BMW.

4.8isFred, BMW generally don't tell you what the cost of warranty repairs would have been had you paid for them unless you very specifically ask the dealer - I always ask if they would mind printing out a copy of work done for my full service records for the car and I ask what it would have cost - the printout doesn't have the cost, this is charged out by the dealer to BMW at a special discounted cost. The dealer has always printed out a copy of the work done and then given me an idea of the cost by pricing up parts and the labour usually charged for the job.

Oh ok. Differnent prices for them then, bloody steelers, half the labour rates i bet thats why they dont like to put prices on the invoice. The parts are costly enough for the front and rear suspension plus the compressor, must of cost a fortune. I also ask for a work sheet to go in my service history, always great to resort back if need be. Had some warranty work done on a previous e39 both headgaskets seals had perised so had the work done via warranty for one to fail before the warranty had expired again so had the gasket replaced again, all was well with that.

Bet you are glad you had a warranty in place Dan?

I do the same as Condor no matter how big or small the work being carried out is. Generally though, the Warranty Invoice only ever has the cost of the Parts included. Any Labour costs aren't shown on the invoice...

My car has been at the dealers since the 7th APRIL!!! Still no idea when I will be getting it back - can't wait for the Satisfaction Survey to be sent out!

Yeah it is for the Valvetronic Levers and associated parts.

I took it in March for with my complaint of misfire on cold start as well as Diff Seals and Level Sensor. When I collected the car a couple of days later, I was told that they had experienced the misfire cleared the fault codes and there hadn't been a problem since... they also told me that the problem with the out of tolerance levers should have been sorted by January 2007! I explained that unfortunately, it isn't my fault that BMW hadn't taken the opportunity to sort this problem on any of the Services the car had before January 2007 and it certainly isn't my problem when I bought a AUC car in 2008 - this should have been sorted.

I was assured that they would chase this up with Warranty and get back to me ASAP. 2 weeks later and no news I called up to chase. They said that they were still waiting for an answer. They called me back that afternoon telling me that the work was approved to be done under the Warranty Agreement. I took the car up straight away hoping for the work to start. A week later I was due back to work in Kaz and hadn't had an update...

A couple of days after settling back to work, a friend of mine called to say that the car was still sat in the car park of the BMW Garage. I called them to see what was going on... they said that they were waiting for approval from Warranty. A bit confused I asked to speak to the Service Manager and explained to him my disappointment that my car had been sat up there for over a week with no progress even though I was under the impression that the work had already been approved. He apologised and said it was their mistake, the work has been approved but they need a fault code to give to the Warranty Company in order to carry out the work. Would this be the one that they just blindly cleared to get rid of the problem back in March??

April being the hottest month since records began, they struggled to get the misfire and therefore couldn't start the work until they did. A week into May and on a miserable morning they managed to get the misfire!! Work began straight away to take the engine to bits... only problem was that the replacement parts were on back-order in Germany for 3 weeks :headbang:

Its all been very unorganised and has caused me a lot of disruption. Not only has the car been with them over a month and a half... I have paid Road Tax, Insurance, Warranty and Depreciation for that period where I couldn't use my car. The loaner that they gave me only 2 weeks ago was a gutless base model 318i Auto! I have 2 large Doberman's that the X5 usually carries that have had to go in my Missus' 59 plate car and they have wrecked it by just being dogs - mud, hair etc etc... all because they have had my car for so long and I was told the loaner cannot have dogs in!

Sorry to go on but pretty well pi$$ed off with it all... the indirect costs now are running into the hundreds (valeting the missus car, expenses travelling to and from the Dealership etc etc).

Turks you are having a hard time of it at the mo hope you get it sorted asap.

Must be fate i asking Dan the cost of the SLS when mine takes a turn for the worst :( Turns out the SLS control unit is at fault as well as a rear wheel speed sensor. Being attended to as of monday this week.No doubt they will find something else at fault :x Also will need to replace both front tyres asap. Any recommendations on which tyres to for? running standard 20" on the X at present.

Is it the case when the SLS inactive appears on the cluster the power output reverts the the rear wheels only? Or is this only when the DSC inactive is displayed? As when messages are displayed the X feels under powerd?

Update: Turns Out Bmw are waiting for the parts to come in stock. Wont have the 5 back until Tuesday earliest, shower of sh.te :headbang:

Thanks,

Fred.

I got the error message the other day (in my 2004 4.4)...but I didn't know I had self levelling suspension!
I don't have a button to raise/lower it as the manual suggests.

Any thoughts at all?

Do some cars have the suspension without the option to adjust ride height?

Thanks!
