New forum member saying hello and posting question

Post by ofcourseiremember » Mon Jul 18, 2011 1:24 pm

Not long picked up a 2006 X5 3.0d. Loving the new vehicle and a real change up to the 1.6i compact we've had for 10 years+, but very necessary with the ever growing puppy! I have a question which I'm hoping members might be able to help me with: I'm trying to find a cable that will connect iPhone / iPod to the Aux in / out socket in the rear console. Been surfing for ages with no success :headbang: . Can only find solutions for post 2007 model. I was told it's a standard 3.5mm to 3.5mm, but although 3.5 is true of the iPod input it isn't of the Aux in female socket. Has anyone else had this issue? Does anyone know of a solution and where I can get it?

It is a 3.5mm connector but not suitable for the iPod/iPhone. The plug is designed for video and audio so is a 4 ring plug rather than a three ring (standard stereo 3.5mm).

Your best bet is probably to get the OEM BMW iPod 'Aux In' kit which gives you a proper 3.5mm stereo connection in the glovebox and enables the function on the head unit. Control of the iPod is completely manual unless you go for an 'Intravee' type installation.

I have the OEM added Aux Ipod kit connection but installed a Dension Ice>Link Plus system in my 2005, but I would not recommend the Dension products as it's proved unreliable, prone to errors and the product support for later products is very poor to non-existent. If I could work out how to de-wire it from the harness I would go back to the CD changer that sits idly doing nowt.

Oh, and welcome by the way.... :D

Many thanks X5Sport. I need to read up on the Intravee solution but from other posts it would seem to be a popular solution. Do I take it Sanj works for Intravee and if so, is he good for forum member discounts? cue Sanj . . . . .

LOL! No I don't work for them - just seem to have a rep for endorsing the product so much! Plus I'm an early Beta Tester so can access some of the firmware updates that not all members have access to (yet).

Things like PDC sensor information on the OBD, convenience lock (currently available to all members) and the unlock option (on key out or when gear selected to Park position) and folding mirrors (if you have the factory option installed).

Otherwise, it is currently the best solution for iPod connectivity. If you can make the Meet on the 6th of August in Bristol, you can see it and many other member mods... A lot to help you spend your money! ;)

Thanks Sanj. I'll do some research and then take a view. Wasn't aware of August 6th in Bristol, but I'm in Manchester that weekend (footie Friday and staying over).
