Adding satnav to my X5
Hi,
First post so be gentle.
I've just bought my first X5 - a March 06 3.0d which has the 16:9 display with TV, Bluetooth and a 6 cd changer in the boot. I wanted to find out if it was feasible to add satnav through the existing screen. I've tried searching here but without success. Hence would be grateful if someone could point me in the right direction
Thanks
Peter

No - just the cd changer
Re: Adding satnav to my X5
Can you post a pic of what you have in the back as i thought the system that you have automatically had Sat nav with it.

I've never heard of the screen being there without the Satnav. Check what option list was installed with BMW when first owner took possession. At least you'll know?

Welcome to the forum Peter,
Check for connectors not plugged into anything and an antenna (again not plugged into anything). Evidence it 'was' there.
You've obviously not got it but you're looking for the Mk4 SatNav unit - has DVD written on the front of it. Pretty sure yours would of had it as OEM with the COMMS pack (you have bluetooth and TV). If you bought it from the dealer you can go back and ask for the missing unit. Private sale then you're on your own... Trader may be 50:50???
Welcome regardless! Hope you can resolve this (eBay also a last option).

Re: Adding satnav to my X5
Thanks for the replies. Definitely no DVD and I don't remember seeing any loose cables but I'll have another look when it's light. I don't know if it makes any difference but this is an overseas model - I'm in Brisbane. Presumably if I have cables it's just a case of acquiring the DVD module ?

Re: Adding satnav to my X5
I had a similar problem when i bought mine.
I rang the bmw dealer and gave them the car reg and they confirmed the car was fitted with prof satnav from the factory.
I did some digging below the cd changer - in fact took cd changer out and found the 3 loose cables (2 coloured plugsa and one small silver connector). I obtained a mk3 cd unit plugged it in and hey presto.

Re: Adding satnav to my X5
Took the CD changer out this afternoon - the only unused wires are some that terminate in a blue connector block (same wires and blue block are also present on driver's side). Looking at the cost options list at the top of this section of the forum I would deduce I have Option 602 and so no wiring for sat nav. Does this mean TomTom or similar is now my best option ?
Re: Adding satnav to my X5
Check with the dealer, they should be able to tell you if it was fitted at the factory.
Then you will know if the wiring loom is installed for it or not.
If it was then its just a case of obtaining a head unit and finding the correct wires.
If not then it's a TOM TOM

OK so I've established that I don't have the wiring in place and I'm resigned to getting a TomTom or similar. Anyone have any recommendations for a unit that integrates nicely with the X5 interior. Pictures would be great.
