X5 M sport or Ronge Rover sport
Hi Guys
Having read all the topics, this is the awesome forum everybody can share experience and joys. I have just order a new x5 4.0d M, anybody can advise me how long it can be deliver? if it takes too long, I may go with Ranger Rover Sport HSE 3.0. my friend has a new one, the spec is way to much than BMW, which we have to top up everything. it looks good too, but I have never driven Ranger rover before, not big fun of the seating position, anything else can share experience please. thx

Re: X5 M sport or Ronge Rover sport
Not a fan of the Range Rovers due to their ongoing reliability issues, poor dealers and expensive servicing - even when compared to BMW prices! I have driven a wide range of 4x4 types and the BMW wins hands down.
The driving experience of the BMW is much better too as the RR Sport is built on a Discovery chassis. The E70 has better road manners, little body roll and a far better engine. If you are going to need an off-road capability then the RR will be better but not otherwise. The day by day operating costs of the RR are also higher as they are a very thirsty beast!
Just my opinion of course, but......BMW wins. I do agree that everything is an option but then the cynics amongst us might say that RR include a number of options as standard because they would not sell as many if they didn't

Re: X5 M sport or Ronge Rover sport
I'm an ex Range Rover owner - had one for 6 years - and would never go Range Rover again. The build quality, uncomfortable seats and poor dealer service all echo X5Sports experience above.......
I also echo the drive experience of the BMW being far far better in my opinion than the RR. I've got an E53, not an E70 but the drive is still fantastic and the seats are much much more comfortable than the horrible bench-seat type style of the RRs. Its all just personal opinion and whatever you like the best, really.

Re: X5 M sport or Ronge Rover sport
Hi guys, thank you so much for replying, I believe that I made a right decision. had the test drive both RR and X5 SE model month ago, obviously, the RR is not my cup of tea, Just saw lots on the road and less x5 which made me think that x5 is less popular than the RR.

Re: X5 M sport or Ronge Rover sport
I think you've made the right choice too. Having the all round camera I have found very useful so if your budget can stretch it might be one to consider especially if parking in tighter places!!
I didn't choose the DVD either as the CIC computer (SatNav & iDrive) can read and play them anyway.
£54k sounds right - it's almost £10k less than my X6 cost me.........
If you're that keen, you can also track you order once it's been built and left the factory too. My X6 was ordered in September last year and delivered in ealry November so two months lead time sounds about right.

Re: X5 M sport or Ronge Rover sport
thx guys, how is X6 going? is it better driving than x5?
Re: X5 M sport or Ronge Rover sport
Good choice there Eddie ....... if you can possibly stretch to it, add the auxiliary heating with remote - you will be very grateful for it for around 6 months of the year!!! Its absolutely brilliant and is quite complex and expensive to add on later, so if you can push the boat out that bit more, I'd say you can save if you forego the rear seat heating and have the sport seats instead of the comfort seats......its all down to personal opinions, though, and you need to be happy with the choices. Good luck with the new purchase - always a great day to be choosing options on a new car!!!!!

It's very different in terms of outright performance, especially with the extra nigh on 90bhp and dual turbos. The 40d goes like the wind and the 8-speed transmission is sublime. I do find that I am starting to go round corners at car speeds with no drama at all. I don't need the load lugging capacity that the E70 has as we still have my 6 year old E53 too. The X6 performance brings a real 'grin factor' and I do need the speed warning 'bong' as the limits come up very rapidly.
The E53 is very good too, and it handles very well for such a large car. The E70 does too, but was bigger than we needed as it is somewhat larger than the E53.
The only issue I have with the X6 is that as I am 6'4" I sometimes bang my head on the doorframe when getting in or out. That never happens with the E53 and I doubt would happen with the E70. Sometimes being very tall is a pain!! Literally

Re: X5 M sport or Ronge Rover sport
The model of RR you where talking about I would say the BMW is far better but If you was talking about the supercharged then is a whole different ball game, the interior is lush and all the gadgets just bags of fun. I wont even bother talk about the performance.

Re: X5 M sport or Ronge Rover sport
Couple of quick points:
- Our E70 took 12 weeks from order to delivery. March '11 -> June '11.
- Make sure you order the 6NR option for smartphone integration! Also internet access is £75 .. worth having I think.
On the RR .. I drove the Disco 4/TDV6, which shares it's engine with RRS and XF-S. This is a stonking unit and IMHO easily as good as the BMW 6 cylinder engines. The kick (2nd turbo) at 3.5K was mighty impressive, even in a 2.7T disco! What lets down RR at the moment is the weight of their vehicles .. which really hurts economy.

Thx for the advice tall guy haha, I'm jealous of u being short 1.75m, may be we can play basketball together another day, have u seen the topgear they said the x6 is nothing, I always think it is a good one, does Jimmy hate BMW?

Re: X5 M sport or Ronge Rover sport
I can safely say that I don't take either Clarkson or Top Gear particularly seriously..
Having watched some of their supposed 'real world' test articles on programnes, I can safely say that for BMW vehicles tested by them have not exactly been tested in the sort of conditions that few if any owners would actually try to use their cars. I don't care about how fast 'The Stig' can throw cars around Dunsfold airfield. I think TG rated he X6 as 'pointless' yet it has sold more than 120,000 examples to date.
BMW have never sold their X models on their off-road ability but on their ability to stay on the road in all conditions!
