BM54 module repair service!!!

Post by jeegnesh » Sun Jun 26, 2011 9:09 am

I found this repair service eBay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 886wt_1139

Has anyone used this service or know anything about them, till recently there was no repair option, so am wondering.

Done some research and the seller is a proper ICE shop on the high street, website: http://www.cartronics.co.uk/index.cfm?pid=2729&gID=487

Only 30 mins from me am thinking of going down there and feel out this repair he offers, but would love to know if anyone has had there BM54 repaired anywhere?

I used them to install a parrot kit and bass box a few years back. No problem with their work, but they weren't the cheapest.

Not when it comes to music. Down to one speaker now, oh and sub as it happened to be linked of that speaker output. Boy does it sound crap. Think I'm going to take a chance on this, probably this week.

BM54 module repair service!!!

Post by jeegnesh » Mon Jun 27, 2011 10:04 pm

Here we go, dropped my unit for repair today. Good news was that they seemed very knowledgable and professional. Should get a call tomorrow regards the damage and if it is repairable. So silent in the car now.

BM54 module repair service!!!

Post by jeegnesh » Wed Jun 29, 2011 10:51 am

Huge disappointment yesterday, picked up, put back in while at the shop, thank god. Turned radio on and everything looked good, all speakers back, about to leave and switched to the intravee and almost no sound at all, so back it went for them to check and sure enough he could see the CD was not giving any output.

Just got a call now saying it's ready again, fingers crossed this time.

Oh apparently they had 18 BM54's for repair this month, but obviously mine was the only one with this oddity.

BM54 module repair service!!!

Post by jeegnesh » Wed Jul 06, 2011 12:52 pm

Delayed my response just to see it really is fixed. But sure enough BM54 is fully operational again, so good to have music back.

One thing as inhale forgotten but Bluetooth and nav sounds only comes out of the front passenger speakers is that right?

just going through, the problems on the Forum people are having with with x5 sound system. :- bm54 resulting in randum speaker failure or other, and we just go out and by a new one, or get it repaired, dry joints in pcb board is mentioned ??, is this a failure experienced by many with the x5, as there are no questions ,I can find on this matter on the x3 ? maybe they dont have the same system, also another that comes to mind is the parking sensors, we just go out and buy new ones,, when you wash your car water gets in, should they be sealed ?? or module again} or is this just something we have come to accept,

not looked on other Forums, to tel if other cars have the same reaccuring problems
ps ,another is the final stage resistor, hedgehog} whats it all about he says?????????????????? UDM

your views be welcome, good , bad or similar

You have to bear in mind the E53 is getting on in years now and no sound system or indeed car, can be expected to last forever......you never hear about the many BM54 units that continue to just work, the forums will obviously have comments from those with problems, so maybe it just looks worse than it really is. The units seem to suffer from similar problems like the dry joints and can now be repaired by specialists, whereas before you had to source another one, new or used. The newest / last E53s are now around 5/6 years old, and many have had several owners and many thousands of miles racked up. If you have an E53 with a full warranty then the BM54 unit will be covered otherwise its one of the niggling problems that potentially raises its head when you buy into an older car. FSR is similar, many cars have a similar issue - Range Rovers of that age, Mercs to name just two of which I have personal experience. Old cars have pitfalls and things tend to give up on them eventually........for cars that are 5-10 years old, a faulty radio module and a FSR replacement isn't bad going........if only it ended there!!!!
