Welcome.....the nearest we evr got to an M3 was the 1/16 scale ie cast model of an M3 Convertible I bought my wife for her Birthday last weekend. :D I have previously spoiled her by letting her have my X5 as part of the reparations for letting me buy the X6 though...

Not sure about spec, as far as i know its a limited edition, carbon. i believe there were about 400 of them built in late 2003, this could be wrong but if anyone knows any different please let me know. here's a couple of pics of the inside.ImageImage

Yes, It certainly seems to be a genuine Carbon Black Edition. These has carbon paint, Champagne nappa, anthracite carpet mats with chamagne piping trim & various option boxes ticked including comms pack with DSP sound.

Many don't realise that the comms pack was not standard on other 4.6is models at launch- that said I have only come across a couple of cars being sold without this option box ticked.

4.6is the thirstiest of all V8's but also the most powerful & best performing of all the pre-facelift models.

All 4.6is have the Alpina developed engine which is near same as found in Alpina E39 but with sturdier head gasket.

Not cheap to insure for many but recent prices have clearly attracted many to this car which was circa £65k new.

If yours is the car I think it is, then it has a nice & low displayed mileage too ;)

Not sure on the definiive build number total on these - It would be good to find out.

Car looks great btw

Welcome aboard :)

P.S. Not having a pop but the image size is such that it has negative impact on page formatting on the PC I am typing from

Sorry about size of pics, thought that to, but not that clued up on comps, will sus it out for next time. Yeah your rite about ins, its dearer than the M, but well worth it for the comfort. There is plenty power to, very surprised at how quick a 2 ton beast can be, But HOLLY S##T when it comes to stopping it not so clever! i think a brake upgrade might be on the cards. Was thinking of getting a re-map at some point to. Ain't finding the fuel to much of an issue, the m wasn't lite on gas ether. Overall very happy with the X. Thanks for all the comments and the gen, will try and find out more :D

Fyi 4.6is & 4.8is have larger brakes than all other E53's......thats not to say they are epic.

Depending on history &/or where/when brakes last changed you may have tired items or poor quality replacements fitted.

I believe the trader you bought from has a blue 4.6is too so maybe ask if you can compare brakes on that. If by chance they are much better you then have peace of mind you can improve things over stock.

Brembo Big Brake Kit, (BBK) cost's used to be ridiculous & represented a significant spend relative to value of our cars. Thus I would make sure pads/discs & fluid all spot on & maybe replace same if needed. I do, however, know of a past owner/member member on an old forum who fitted Brembo BBK to his E53 3.0i & was very impressed with everything apart from the bill.

If wanting spec above stock you could start with a slightly more aggressive pad but I believe if doing this you would have to expect more disc wear, thus many who upgrade pads then do discs to match, then comes the upgraded lines & better fluid, (albeit I am told thet this wont make much difference on road everyday driving)

At lower price range to cost of forking out for a decent BBK are ebay listings promising the world in brake performance, some of thee listings which don't inspire confidence in product being made by same maker as stated.

Not claiming to be a braking guru, I have pbr/axiss deluxe on mine ( others in USA fit ultimates by same maker which are more performance oreintated). I will probably go back to stock pads/discs made by same folk that make them for BMW.

Just bear in mind some insurance companies wont cover you if you upgrade brakes thus some say nothing which can potentially end in tears come claim time if insurance void as a result......not such an issue for pad upgrades but BBK will stand out to an assessor potentially.

Regarding Maps Jason on here ( it wont take much searching to find his posts), has a device he can send to you so that car can be mapped by you plugging in same. Of course there are other mapping experts out there but this may be of interest if distance is an issue.
