Loss of Power to Nearside Door.

Nightmare. My passenger got in the car today and opened the window. Nothing unusual there but when I parked up, the nearside window won't close, the nearside mirror will not adjust and the nearside central locking no longer works. All the other doors are fine.

Any idea what this could be (and how much to fix!)? The window is currently boarded up and I'm a bit concerned as its open to the elements.

Check the wiring going from the body into the door - there might be a connector loose. Can't check on mine as it's not here. Also check the fuse panel (above the glovebox) in case there is one for that door and it's blown.

Thanks for the quick reply. I've checked the wiring and can't see anything obviously loose. I'll nip out now and check the fuses.

If you can pull out the electric window switch- check the connections to it. IIRC when the switch is not connected all functions to the door are disabled. (could be a loose or corroded pins in the plug)

I couldn't open the fusebox last night as it had jammed itself somehow. As I was still unsure what the problem was I took it to an indy in Burton-on-Trent (Burton Motor Workshop) who fixed it for £12!! It was a fuse after all (number 24 IIRC).

It's the first time I'd used an indy and I'm very impressed with the service. They were fully booked up but managed to find a slot to at least get the window back up and then rebook the car in for Tuesday, however the fault was found and dealt with immediately.

Has anyone started a list of recommended local indy's on here? I couldn't find one but may be looking in the wrong place.

Glad it was a simple as a fuse. Nice when it is that easy. Keep an eye on it though as there is usually a reason for a fuse blowing. Sometimes it is just a 'tired ' fuse where the constant heating and cooling as power flows causes metal fatigue and a crack. That reduces the ability of the fuselink to meet its rating and pooff!

A second indy recommendation is PCS in Bletchley. Specialise in BMW and Merc.
