"Auto" jammed in on position on heater/ac unit
"Auto" jammed in on position on heater/ac unit
The "Auto" button (bottom left of th heater/ac console) got bumped and came off but seems seems to have snapped so cant be put back in place but more importantly the AUTO is permanently on
So ..........
Can the central heater control panel be removed easily and the AUTO switched off - is it likely that I can access the broken part inside to remove it and therefore switch on/off the auto
or am in looking at a whole new unit and if so does anyone have any idea on cost ?
Cheers

You may need to sit down!!
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do ... g=64&fg=20
It looks like a complete unit, but that's only what Realoem shows. The slide does mention a 'Repair Kit' which could make the shock a lot easier....?
The BMW TIS repair instructions show it as a single module. To get at it you need to remove the heater panel above it with what looks like a credit card type piece of plastic pressed into either side. The back of the switch block is then accessible.
Ebay is probably your friend for this......

Re: "Auto" jammed in on position on heater/ac unit
The control unit has the buttons that can be 'popped' out (once they are taken out though, the majoority of times the small plastic lugs snap- meaning they won't stay in afterwards!)
If the button function is permanently on, the small switch is probably jammed - if you have a look in the void left by the missing outer button, you should see a tiny switch at the bottom (IIRC only a coupl of mm wide). May be worth trying to move it a little with a pen etc to try and dislodge it.
Thereplacement button pack from the dealers is VERY expensive for what it is, something close to £70.00- the links above seem very good value for money.
On a long shot, it may be worth contacting user 'Ayat' on here. I bought a single button from him when mine failed a while ago- he may still have the one you are looking for. Drop him a PM.
HTHs.

Re: "Auto" jammed in on position on heater/ac unit
I'm confused (I know, not hard) - I can see the Auto button on that eBay link. Is that not what you're after?
The whole unit is just clipped in. Some gentle persuasion with a small flat-head/credit card will help lever it out.

Re: "Auto" jammed in on position on heater/ac unit
My auto button snapped off a while ago. I purchased just the button from someone on ebay who had obviously just dismantled a unit and was selling all the buttons individually. Think I paid about £10 for it. With a little care it just snaps back into place.
Re: "Auto" jammed in on position on heater/ac unit
Just did a quick search and this is the only one I could find.
It's in the USA but cheap enough

Re: "Auto" jammed in on position on heater/ac unit
Thanks But snapping a new button into place doesn't switch off the auto as its jammed on due to another piece of the old switch being lodged in there. The button isn't a problem, i can get them fairly easily, its switch the thing off that is the issue
