I have an intermittent cruise control problem, it intermittently will not turn on, doesn't display the symbol on the dash either, when it does turn on it operates fine, any advice greatly appreciated.

Switch fault, as in dirty contacts either in the steering wheel, or a bad connection into the vehicle electronics from the steering would be my first things to check out.
Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.
