Deposit paid on E70!
Deposit paid on E70!
Well after over 5 years of E53 ownership (3+ in the diesel), the time has finally come for an upgrade. (E53 was sold a couple months back. Was gutted as up till now it had been the best car I have ever owned).
Paid deposit on E70, 3.0d se (with lots and lots of toys) should be collecting next week, and will post pics up then. It was a tradeoff between a higher mileage/ lower spec SD and this- succumbed to the spec in the end.
Thought the missus would be more excited but at the moment feel like a kid waiting for christmas morning! :0)
Hopefully can start making more contributions the forum as will be officially back in an X5.

E53 was great but having changed so many bits (injectors, box, turo, shocks, bushes, wishbones, PAS hose, turbo etc etc etc) i was spendinf more time under it than in it! But then again by the time i sold
It it was close to 170k- never mind the next owner should benefit! :0)

Sounds good. Piccies to follow no doubt
What 'toys' have you found on this one?

What 'toys' have you found on this one?

Main toys off the top of my head:
Panoramic roof
Heated front seats
Heated rear seats
Heated steering wheel
Head up display
USB connectivity
Dynamic pack
Media pack
Rear entertainment system
Active drive
The only thing i would have really liked would have been the comfort seat option, but you cant have everything i suppose.

Wow! Picked up the X5, and just enjoying the long 6 hour drive from Scotland back to Brum! (missus driving now!). Was initially toying with the idea of a Q7 or RR Sport, but the X5 is IMO the best all rounder. Glad we went this way.
Will post pics and complete spec later. Thanks for the kind wishes guys.

E70 3.0D SE, Black with Black - Gone but not forgotten! >:D
Hi all,
Well after a bit of a wait, finally collected the car yesterday, and really enjoyed the 6.5 hour drive back home in it (seemed a lot shorter on the way back lol!).
Car had a couple of issues that the dealer has agreed to have rectified for me in Brum (revisiting them is not feasible due to the distances involved. Dealer is in Scotland). They will of course pay the bill.
First impressions going from the E53 to this, is that the whole car seems a lot bigger- like a tonka toy according to the missus
Reversing camera seems quite poor TBH- especially at night, but at least there is still the PDC and visual display to help.
As promised here is the complete spec on the car: (options only listed)
E70 X5 xDrive30d SE M57 3.0
Black Sapphire Metallic
Black Nevada leather
Steering wheel heating
Reversing Assist Camera (bit fuzzy)
Comfort Access
Running boards. aluminium
Climate Comfort windscreen
Third Row Seating
Panoramic glass sunroof
Floor mats. velour
Ext. mirrors - folding. auto dimming (v big!)
Elec Fr Seats + Driver Memory
Seat heating. front (three stage)
Seat heating. rear (two stage)
High-beam Assistant
Xenon headlights
Adaptive Headlights
DVD System for Rear
TV function (digital & analogue)
Head-up Display (nice toy)
Media package
Dynamic package
Adaptive Drive
Ipod connection through Idrive (OE retrofit)
The most impressive of the above is without a shadow of a doubt the Adaptive Drive. (even though this is the first car I have driven with this, and wasn't on my list of 'must haves'). Having driven a few E70s without AD, its one of those things that once you have experieced it, you cannot do without. Coming back along some country roads yesterday, even the missus commented how steady the car was in the twisty stuff
Definitely a must have on future cars.
Was initially toying with the idea of the Audi Q7 or Range Rover Sport- glad I made the right choice in the end. (Audi more technologically advanced and spacious but is too big and ugly IMO. RR has the looks but a bit too basic on the inside)
Will give it a clean and post some pics later today. Thanks for all the kind words so far!

Re: Deposit paid on E70!
Yes it's a shame that Adaptive drive is no longer available on the X5s apart from the 50i. I'd heard that the rear camera was poor, but they've improved it now so possibly something you could get upgraded if it bothered you.
