X5 Rear wheel drive ?!
Due to the demise of my front diff we are just trying to find out whether it is even possible to remove the front diff and driveshafts,disconnect the transfer box and run RWD only ?? Any thoughts ?

It would upset the DSC system and the Xdrive as a minimum. No idea how you would overide the computers to prevent the operation of those parts of the system. You would probably see a DSC fault light.
It should not be a mechanical problem, more of an electronic one. The DSC operates on the ABS and Xdrive (that bit you will be removing). Effectively you would really only be forcing the system into one of its extreme modes - all drive to the rear.

Just been reading on outpost of a guy who unplugged the xDrive due to a transmission wobble. The only problem he's had so far is the DSC light being on permanently,at least i'll know the reason for it being on !!! This is a last resort of course if i can't find a 3.91 diff. The cars got to be ready for our holidays on the 28th.
