Re: E53 Electric folding side mirrors..STOLEN!..HELP !!!!
Hi Amer,
got your PM. Sorry for the delay. Was too late on Saturday as parts had already closed.
Will give the dealer a call and let you know straight away the best price I can get you.
Also, If you can get hold of the salvage dealer who has that pair then go for it as you already have the triangle pieces and it's not hard to swap over even with the connectors, etc.

Hi Raj
Thanks for replying , no worries, I am trying to get hold of the guy but he is not now picking up his phone, which is just my luck. He says he has the head units but not the triangles, my friend who also had his stolen says that you need the the triangle attached as the cable with the plugs will not go through . Hoping another friend has some feedback for ms tomorrow. How long does it actually tale to out them on?
Regards

You can take the connectors off the ends of the wires and then feed them through and re-connect.
Re: E53 Electric folding side mirrors..STOLEN!..HELP !!!!
Are they simple to disconnect?.. If I can just get a set with the triangle plates it will make life so much easier.

It looks like there is a mirror left on that which you might be able to get for very cheap!

Another day no mirrors .. I can't believe how mentally exhausting it is just to get a pair of replacement mirrors for standard BMW . It's like they all just disappeared off the face of the earth. I'd love to write to Bm chairman and give him a piece of my mind. If it weren't for the extortionate prices they were charging , then mirrors wouldn't bd getting stolen in the 1st place. I've all but given up literally. I will not be buying this car again after I have sold it.

Re: E53 Electric folding side mirrors..STOLEN!..HELP !!!!
Unfortunately with any luxury car comes luxury car prices. After losing the complete front bumper assembly of our E46 I was stunned to find (a) how easy it was to do and (b) that BMW had done nothing about it in spite of being fully aware of the thefts and how they were being carried out. Some owners have been forced to weld parts onto the bolts to stop thieves getting the right tools onto them so stopping the thefts.
There is absolutely no way that BMW can really justify the prices for their spares simply because they are 'BMW', and nor can many other car manufacturers do the same, but that is where the money is - in spare parts.
The must be a way of securing these mirrors to a vehicle so that thieves cannot nick them? The trouble is I suppose that these bastids will then vandalise the car if they can't get them off, so you just can't win.

Re: E53 Electric folding side mirrors..STOLEN!..HELP !!!!
I agree that the prices are extortionate, if you consider a £50k car has 2 mirrors costing £1k, then you would assume the car consists of approx 100 parts or 50 pairs to make £50k, it doesn't! i imagine if you calculate evry nut bolt and spare part of the car bought seperately it would come to £500k, if anyone has the time feel free, i reckon it'll be around there!
However, on the other hand you can't slate a whole marque and vow never to buy to BMW because of this...... you have choices, you have other models lower in the range with cheaper options and parts, you have other specs which you can 'choose'. If you buy Ferrari, don't expect a simple piece of plastic to cost that of a Ford Fiesta for the same bit, more like 100 times the price! Now, look at the options list, the auto dimming mirrors are £250 ish MORE when you buy new, thats in addition to the non dimming mirror and in addition to any spares markup! therefore you should expect that they WILL cost more, a lot more, if you need to buy the full unit on it's own after buying the car...... that's just marketing. Still, I don't condone the price, and I don't agree with the easy theft of these, but again however, you can't stop a thief! it's not the car manufacturers fault! if you want thief proof mirrors then maybe they can design and supply them, but then, maybe they'll be £2000 a pair when someone steals your whole door, or just lifts your whole car on to the back of a truck! If a thief wants something they'll get it!! If it's a priceless painting in a museum worth (priceless amount) but say £20,000,000, they have guards, cameras, dogs, lasers, mechanisms, trackers etc. etc..... AND theives STILL take them if they want them.
yes I'm on a drunken rant, and I'm a newbie so maybe this post will be frowned upon, but WE have the choice in what we buy, we have the choice AND the means to research them, the faults, the prices, the pleasures! BEFORE we purchase. Most of the reasons that a £50k, £80k V8 or prestige vehicle becomes 'affordable' later in life is due to the high price of upkeep, so owners take that gamble when buying a 5 or 10 year old prestige car instead of a 2 or 3 year old Ford or Vauxhall. The choice is ours, the information is there, the research can be done!
Now, I've had more than 30 BMW's and never had a major problem which caused me a lot of stress or money! NEVER! so, I'm loyal to the brand. I've had 10 Vauxhalls and replaced many an engine and gearbox, subframe, floor!!!! ball joints, track rods, driveshafts, struts, exhausts you name it! all were very cheap, but all were very 'regular'. Ok, modern Fords and Vauxhalls are Much better, but the old BMW's were in a league of their own in comparison.
You get what you pay for is a cliche to say the least, but it's true. I'm sorry the price is so high, but it's the theives fault, not BMW's. BMW rely on the fact an owner is fully insured, and that thefts will be covered. Ok, some insurance prices have high excess' but there's always a 'choice' in that too, you get what you pay for. Car ownership must be balanced in a number of ways. I know I spent my youth owning little sports cars (Nova SR's, Astra GTE's etc...) and paying £1500 a year insurance with a £1000 excess, but i took that risk.
I know I'm ranting, and I know I will be slated, but sh!t happens, it's awful, I do feel for people who get burned and on the wrong end of the stick, but please don't blame the whole brand that we all love and cherish and take your angst out on it, blame the theives, blame the breakers for charging extortionate prices, blame the man who sold you the car..
i really hope you find some for a fair price and get it sorted and start to love your car, and I hope you don't go off the whole brand because of this unfortunate event. If you do you'll miss out out.
my fingers are crossed that a pair of full auto diming folding mirrors are out there in someones garage for £200. Try a police compound, there may be a drug dealers car impounded that they may allow you to liberate before the car gets crushed.......... here's hoping.
I don't wish this situation on anyone. and now I will stay off the Gin

Re: E53 Electric folding side mirrors..STOLEN!..HELP !!!!
Quality , good response I don't hate my car but it's just frustration of being so close to getting them then failing at the last hurdle. I do not want to sell my car but if I went through insurance my premium would rocket, my excess is 750 as it is, always been a careful driver for the last 24 years, but have been the victim of theives 3 times in HHS last 3 years. 1st time both side mirrors taken from my c class , then someone potted the side window, me being naive claimed on both, not knowing the market I could have got replicas had I researched more. But these 2 incidents have made my premium rocket to more than double.
Welding the bolts on sounds like a good idea. Or security bolts once I have a set of mirrors.
Anyway did enjoy reading the post, made sense. But breakers are not too off from being extortionate, I'm not blaming the brand suppose it was easy for me to do so though.

Just looking through house insurance details, and items stolen from a car are covered by the house insurance as well. Did you check that angle?

BIG JV don't think you'll get slated here... I've made comments and expressed opinions in the past and never been yelled at or flamed or whatever it is the professional forum haunters call it.
Even after our theft we now have 3 Bimmers. I just increased the security on site and got on with it. I hate the bastids for making me have to do it, but that's the price of owning a luxury car..
PVR good thought about house insurance - gotta be worth a try?
Amer120 - don't give up in the face of adversity no matter how trying this is. You'll only kick yourself when a set of mirrors turn up (and they will) and your ride is back together. They're kinda hard to give up are these X5's
Right, that's enough raving - tese tablets are good........
