Hi
I’m so hacked off I just had to write this or I would scream
I opened my bank statement this morning to find that there were a lot of transactions on my Sony online account which I didn’t make. We've been three weeks without PSN services because of their incompetence in the hacking debacle and now some rat has stolen my credit card info!
I have spent all of today and yesterday trying to contact Sony and keep getting cut off. I have called their head office today to ask to speak with someone as this is fraud and they say that I need to speak to the same department that offers support. As you can imagine there are loads of people calling and I have been told that their telephone networks cant cope hence the cutting off. I even asked for contact info of a manager or someone who I could complain to and was told that when I get through I can get the information but they don’t have it at the switchboard! I've cancelled my credit card but Natwest cant count it as fraud until I get details of someone at Sony who confirms its fraudulent and that can only bee done on the support line
To top it off we (kids and I) can’t remember what email we set one of the PSN accounts as so my son has lost all of his Trophy info. I know get a life Penny
And second I have the MOT, TAX and Insurance this week and have just been told that one of the shock absorbers is knackered causing the knocking at the front of my car
Oh and another thing. I got the blue screen of death on the PC yesterday and ended up having to reformat the thing!
Thanks I feel better already

Re: Playstation Network sucks!
Sorry to hear of this.
I had read that data was potentially at risk but this is 1st case I have heard of confirmed fraud on a PSN holders account.
I also have PSN account........Damage to credit rating is my concern as I need to keep credit report spot on for mortgage purposes.
Concern for me is folk using data to buy other non PSN stuff.
I really must keep checking my statements online frequently.

Sorry to hear about the 'bad week' Penny. Especially the money side of things.
Sony had said the data was encrypted and therefore supposedly safe. But I suppose if they've hacked the account then they can do all sorts of things.
Email to the BBC time methinks................?
Now please, a plea from the heart of one of the converted, and someone who works in the IT industry full-time...............Advice for everyone with a computer...........BACK IT UP!!!!! We've probably all either suffered from, or know someone who has had a system crash. Go and buy a little external hard drive and let windoze (Apple probably does the same) do a full copy of the entire contents of the drive(s), then set a reminder to do it on a regular basis - it will be an 'incremental' backup which only adds the changes since the last backup. 1TB external drives are cheap as chips these days and it makes recovery from a BSOD full system death so much easier.
For those with a bit more tech savvy and about £500 available, buy either a NAS box, or a Home Server (I use 2 of the latter (one for 32bit and one for 64 bit) and even back them up), the really brave can even build their own from an old PC - and that will back up every machine every day. I had to do a System Recovery from the 'death' of a 3 drive, 2.5TB system after I messed up a Windows 7-64 install (didn't RTFM) and had to start again from the Vista-32 base build. Two hours later and all was as if nothing had happened - apart from me kicking myself for being an idiot!!
Oh, and keep your really important files and pictures by backing up to a DVD or similar and store them somewhere else. I keep mine 100 miles away with family - and yes the discs are encrypted and passworded!! It provides a really good excuse to go see them regularly too

Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.

Hi X5Sport
I was a good girl and did back it up on my external hardrive. I don’t use an incremental backup software program so was about 5 days out. The good news was I used Bart PE to get in a extrapolate (Copy realy!) some of the data missing before I did the full format
Its just the hassle of a full format that I hate

I hoped in your case I was preaching to the choir.............and I expect the membership here could well be a large 'choir' being the sensible sort.....
