Don't you just love it !! The guy has just emailed me quoting distance seller, consumer rights and all that C**P. He simply couldn't be anymore wrong, the trim will only fit one side,i even have pictures up on here of my own O/S damaged 4.8. The only reason the trim was for sale in the first place. I've posted this thread to Paypal in the vain hope that they will see sense. Seems that even if you're undeniably, categorically, absolutely right,YOU'RE STILL WRONG !!! :headbang: What a society !!

I am the unfortunate person who bought this mirror surround from ebay. I bought the mirror trim/surround as it said that it would fit X5 2000 to 2006 models. The mirror trim arrived yesterday and i tried fitting it but it wouldnt fit. I then took it to a mechanic and he couldnt fit it either.
By law I have a right to return an item bought on the internet within 7 days of receipt. I contacted the seller and i received abuse. Then left with no choice i opened a paypal dispute and left it with them to decide whether i am at fault or the seller is. Then the seller sent me another abusive message. I again responded politely and explained that the trim will not fit the car.
I also explained to the seller i have a X5 BMW 3.0 Diesel Sport.
Again i got abuse from the seller.
Today the seller of this trim is going website to website posting messages calling me an idiot a numpty, others have responded saying i may not know my o/s to my n/s. etc
Surly what this seller is doing for a mere £15 is not right.
If the seller is hard up then he should tell me and i would let him off .. but as the law stands i am well within my rights to ask for a refund.
I do not know - why or how this trim does not fit my car.
I am so saddened by this 3rd class behaviour and comments
If paypal decide against me i will accept the decision and so should this seller.
If paypal decide against the seller and the item is returned and refunded the seller can always re sell.. but i will loose out on return postage and faced undue abuse from the seller.
My ebay id is davidgaza i have 100% positive feedback - feel free to check

I am keeping a close eye on this one as I don't want a war of words here.

The correctness of the part can be proven by the part number anyway.

If you check realoem, you can see the part numbers for your car: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do ... g=51&fg=07

Or in the case of the shiny black as shown here: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do ... g=51&fg=07

The 4.8 model shows the same partnumber as the 3.0d.

Compare that to the part number received.

There is no war of words,i'm not wanting to start any kind of slanging match. I am simply stating facts, the part i sold the buyer was indeed the O/S trim as has been confirmed on here by several members. If the buyer was unsatisfied with the condition of the item or i had wrongly described it i would be perfectly happy with the situation. Anybody can make mistakes right,it just takes a bigger man to admit them. But the fact is the part is an O/S mirror trim,my car was damaged down the O/S as can be seen on the forum pictures,my N/S mirror trim is still attached to my car,if the buyer would like to see my feedback he can quite clearly see that i have just purchased an O/S mirror for my car.
The money is not the issue here, its the principle of the thing, the item was correctly listed and i am not being called a liar.

davidgaza, have a look at Sanj's thread here to see how to fit the mirror surround: viewtopic.php?f=22&t=88

The fact that you needed to replace it, is it possible there is some damage to the rest of the frame and that is why it does not fit?
I've just sold my used O/S gloss black mirror trim on Ebay,i know its the O/S as the N/S is still attached to the car.The buyer is stating that the trim doesn't fit the O/S and that it must be the N/S,he says his mechanic confirms this. If i attach a picture could someone please confirm that it is indeed the O/S !!!!
Not wishing to add fuel to the fire here but that looks like the N/S Passenger one to me. See mine below:

Image

Splays out on the left border - further out to the bottom left.

This is the O/S Drivers side. Again see mine:

Image

To be clear - to me, Near Side is the passenger one (on the left of the car, when in it) and the Off side one is the drivers one (on the right of the car, when in it).

Easy way to tell, can the buyer take the N/S one off and try to fit this. Will prove it either way...

Thanks for the input Sanj, the picture isn't the best i guess but the two little tabs that you can see centrally on the right hand side attach to the outside of the mirror frame. Like i said i removed this from my damaged O/S mirror in line with the damage sustained in the cars accident and replaced with a new O/S mirror and surround. The N/S is still attached to the car and has never been removed.

Have to admit I have NOT taken the surround off (so can't remember where the tabs should be located) and yes, the pic is misleading, but hard to take another when the part has been sold!

Glad the context of my post taken in the tone intended.

If buyer still thinks this is a part for the the other side, fit it there. You'll soon know. OR as previously posted - part number will reveal all... Stamped on the surround. And realOEM.com will tell you (or a quick call to the parts dept at your local BMW $tealer).

As Sanj has said I too did think that was the nearside as opposed to the offside due to the pic. The buyer can just try it on both sides to be sure which it is, but in all honesty I think this won't make a difference as both parties are now standing their ground on principle. Think the only outcome to this will be for the buyer to return it and unfortunately Neil for you to refund and just re-list it. Just put it down to an unfortunate experience.

I don't know the model years of both cars concerned, but Could it be that the mirrors are not quite the same pre/post facelift?

...and it shows ( the first picture in that thread) that the two catches (on a nearside mirror that which it is in that picture) are on the outside edge (away from the door)

The ebay picture here shows the two catches on the right hand edge of the frame which must mean this is an offside (UK driving) mirror frame?

.....and realoem shows that the tabs are on the outside edge.....item 3
