Check brake linings

Post by evoblue » Tue May 03, 2011 10:01 pm

This keeps coming up on the display. Red light constant on the display and the 2 warning indicators saying there is a fault in the middle display. What does this meen I need to do to rectify. I have had a look at the brake pads that I can see and the look ok.
Thanks

I would say the pads need changing.

Although you say they look ok, the inner ones sometimes wear quicker than the visible outer ones.

Take your rear right wheel off and have a proper look.

Cheers

I thought that might be the case. I will get the garage to have a look.

Check brake linings

Post by ITBarbie » Wed May 04, 2011 7:20 am

Hi Evoblue

Mine came on last week and I sort of knew I needed them replaced but was not sure which ones.

I took it to my father (ex mechanic) and he replaced the back and visually said the fronts where ok. The warning light stayed on the dash after the back so he took off the caliper on the fronts and sure enough the pads on the inside were worn.

Was quoted £265 Inc vat for pads all round at local Indy but dad did for £63 :-). It is something I would attempt next time myself with a little help as it's one of the easier jobs if you can lift those huge wheels.

Agreed with above comments  the pads on the inside can wear down way more than the outside ;) and a pretty simple job to do aswell.

To help give you some idea - this photo is my new pad against the inside worn one. The outside one was not more than half-worn (not pictured).

We had already replaced the rear pads and the sensor still displayed the error...

Thanks for the reply's. I had thought about changing the disks front and back also they look like they need doing possibly. Thought about the mtec set up of fleabay £243 all round. Looked on a couple off other forums and they seem to get good reviews.

Do you have to renew the wear sensors at the same time?

Thanks

Check brake linings

Post by ITBarbie » Wed May 04, 2011 10:03 pm

Hi Paulmb

I'm not sure I'm afraid. Originally got Mintex but we found a better deal at his local german car specialist. And that included the sensors.

Hi Itbarbie

Did you get the full set off pads front and back including the sensors for £63. Checked the sensors and they seem to be about £10 I think that is each.

Thanks
