Osama Bin Laden... Dead!

Post by Turks » Mon May 02, 2011 6:55 am

Heard an hour or two ago that Osama has been killed. It looks like it is just about filtering through the news now... This will probably dominate the news now for the next few days.

I'm not sure whether this is a good or a bad thing to be honest. I doubt it changes the extreme terror groups... someone else will just step up to the mark I suppose - Someone less well known and so more difficult to find?

Is it a losing battle? Does this mean that we will see another spate of attacks by people in these terror groups trying to make a name for themselves?

The custard test? :D

I know it is the snakes head and new ones will form, but for those that have suffered it is some sort of closure that the main man behind the terror has been killed. The decision of a kill was actually a good one after I thought about it for a bit as if he was alive, the supporters would be going mad all over the place.

Care needs to be taken to not over celebrate this "victory" like I just saw in front of the White House as I don't think it needs to entice reactions from terrorists.

Question is - how will Pakistan react to the loss of face that not only did they have a terrorist living almost in the capital with armed guards that they did not notice, they were also not informed of the operation and thirdly, if you can operate a foreign campaign right next to a military acadamy, it does not say a lot about your military and security status.

This is a bit personal to me as I happened to be in Manhatton on September 11 at the time.

All over the news now. Personally I think it's good news. Shows there is no hiding place and they will get their dues eventually, wherever they are hiding.

I agree with comments re restrained celebrations albeit I accept many have been affected far more than others by historic actions.

My thoughts are with victims, friends & families of those who have suffered loss & including those performing global duties to protect others.

There was a comment on the news about the Pakistani Government being 'embarrassed'. I should bl@@dy well think they are! 800yds from the main Military Academy and no one knew? Yeah right!! I'm not surprised he USA said nothing to the Pakistani's before striking.

Unfortunately as was also reported, Bin Laden was no longer involved in the 'Operations' part of Al Quaeda so we will have to see what transpires. I just hope the thug has now discovered that there were no virgins waiting for him!!

That is a muslim habit, bury within hours.

Think they are trying to avoid doing anything "wrong" in case they upset another lot of terrorists ...

True - religion means, bury within 24 hours....

Not muslim but hear religious burial rituals were followed. Still agree and have been debating with missus, how can we know he is actually no longer alive??? I don't believe any degree of DNA test being 'almost' 100% or that his wife identified him. Horrible and morbid to say but, I need better/concrete proof...

Edit - will not add the 'This thread is worthless without pics' smiley.
