Have noticed lately when i need to select reverse the box is just a little hesitant to engage gear only a second or so. I have never noticed this with other bmw auto boxes i have owned.
Just wonderd is this the norm?
Thanks.

Reverse hesitant!!!
Re: Reverse hesitant!!!
Not usual and not normal. If you happen to be going near a dealer it might be worth getting a code read. It's something to monitor and not worry about though. If it gets worse then it could be an early warning of something, but at present not to worry about.
Are there any particular conditions that make this more likely? Temperature, slope, repeated selection of reverse and forward when parking?

Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.

Havent noticed any sort of a pattern. All forward gears fine and shifts very smooth as should. Just had a few e39 autos and when reverse selected it engages straight away. With the x5 and with reverse only, I come to a halt, select reverse..then i feel the box enagage i dont feel it shift or shunt like there is a fault its just ever so slightly delayed thats the only way i can describe. On my older e39 auto, reverse would engage straight away but that box had coverd 157k so more worn in maybe.
Like you have said X5sport just something to keep an eye on and have a diagnosis done see if anything pops up.
Maybe could be i have been used to driving a manaul car just lately and feel its delayed compared to manual box.
Thanks.

Re: Reverse hesitant!!!
How long had the car been standing still before selecting reverse or is this all the time?
If I leave the car for say 3 weeks, and then start and select reverse, it will be hesitant the first time only. Once it is used again, it does not happen at all.

Re: Reverse hesitant!!!
Just when i select reverse really. Noticed when had to back it up into garage. I do have to shunt up and down a bit to get it into garage as its i tight fit to say the least lol and does just fit when i fold the mirrors in lol.
Will just keep an eye on it.
Cheers.
