Dension Help Please? Custom ICE messed it up.

Post by lordviper » Sun Apr 24, 2011 2:05 pm

hi guys,
so in december of 2010 i had an ipod kit and a bluetooth kit installed in my X by custom ICE in chingford.

immediately i began having issues. the car has gone back to them at least once a month for a full day each time.
but the initial issue of interference on ipod/iphone audio when i press on the gas pedal is still there.
they last had the car exactly 1 month ago to fix this but the interference is now worse than ever.

anyways, over the last 1-2 weeks ive gotten a more serious issue.
when using the dension ipod kit i get NO SOUND on the right side of my car. using radio, tv, tape its fine. but not on ipod.

After driving myself crazy trying to figure it out ive finally realised its whenever someone sits in the rear left seat that audio kind of returns..... with a cackle.

can anyone point me in the right direction on how to access the cable so i can fix this myself?

thanks for any help on this.

i dont really fancy taking my car back to them as its turning into a bit of a joke.
They're super friendly there but their work is not good at all, considering they are more expensive than most other places.
i spent roughly £400 in there getting those 2 kits installed and i feel like i should instead use my apple earphones whilst driving.

my personal advice would be to stay away from custom ice in chingford.
heres their website if in doubt

Which Dension kit?

I have the old ICE>Link Plus in my E53 and kept losing audio on the left side shortly after it was 'professionally' installed. The problem was poor wiring in the Quadlock connector in the boot. One of the pins was loose. Once it was pushed fully home the problem was solved. i also had a whine and that required a new BMW Adapter board in the lead.

Unforunately it wad BMW who found the problem and charged me £300 to fix it. The installer just stuck two fingers up when asked o pay a contribution for sorting out tbeir bad workmanship. The company has long since disappeared ( under that name anyway ) and the original supplier was no help at all.

Dension's European Support was, and still is, very poor. I'm surprised they are still a going concern.

Check the pins are all fully home in the connectors, and you have good earth connections. A 'floating' earth can often cause the issue as the resistnce is high instead of 0 Ohms and a long length of wire can act as an antenna for alternator or fuel pump electric noise pick up.

EDIT: In my vehicle the wiring runs as a single black cable, forward from iPod holder to behind the glovebix where it goes through the BMW Adapter board. A multicore cable goes down the nearside under the carpet and into the boot area. In order to get at the Amp wiring you need to remove the spare wheel, lift the air compressor dome out of the way and then remove the black cover between the bsttery and rear. The amp and wiring are under that cover - including the big Quadlock connector which is about 3cm square.
