Hi Folks...

Post by tarmac_terror » Thu Apr 21, 2011 8:59 pm

Hi there, thought I'd introduce myself to everyone..
My name is Scott, I'm 37 and live in Hampshire. Originally from north of the border in sunny Fife but have been an expat now for 9 years :P Have owned a few BMW's in many guises. Started off with an red 'S' plate 318iS which was a nice car, then bought a blue '52' plate 325 Convertible. Moved on up to an Imola Red '53' plate M3 Convertible and have recently taken the plunge and bought a black '55' plate X5 4.8iS. Also in the fleet are a 1.4 Renault Megane the missus uses for work and a Nissan Skyline R32 GTR track car.

Loving the car and for a big old beast it certainly shifts. Have replaced the panel filter for a K&N and hopefully will be adding a pair of Milltek rear boxes in the near future. Also been reading good reviews of Jasons remaps so may go for one of these also.
The 22" AC wheels were on it at time of purchase, really enhance the looks and was one of the features which attracted me to it in the first place. Panoramic roof is a good addition and in fairness to the original owner, the options list hasnt been shyed away from 8-)
Car will be used as a tow vehicle for the GTR and will only probably see around 5.5K per year. Managing 23 around town which is on par with M3 so no surprises there.

Anyway, enough for now. One Q though...The body kit...am I right in thinking that is the BMW 'aero' kit?? Its not on the spec list and havent seen many around.

So, look forward to making contributions and perhaps even attending some meets.

Regards,
Scott (TT)

A mate at work has a gold(ish) coloured X5 with black grille and upper vents. He's up for swapping, as am I but the missus isnt convinced.....yet! I think it will give it a more aggressive look and complement the rest of it. Might swap for a trial and see how it goes.

Hi Scott...

Welcome to the Forum.

You have a rare beast there, looks really good on the 22's too. Jason's remap is definitly recommended by many, I have still yet to have mine done.

On the R32, what is it set up for? Drag, Drift, Track? Who does your tuning and what sort of stage is it at?

I have spent the last 10 years with these things and still love them!

Hi Turks, GTR is set up for track work, specifically sprinting. Looking to do some Time Attack maybe or a regional sprint series. Its putting out about 450hp at the moment on standard turbos. As an ex mechanic I do all the work on it myself apart from mapping which, has been until now, done at Abbey Motorsport. Hi TT,

I thought I had seen your name somewhere before... I don't post much but have been on GTROC for a long time and always have a good read.

Abbey for mapping :|

I'm not sure how well you know them at Abbey so i'll not say too much, but I wouldn't take there. Maps are far too rich and the cars just don't produce the outputs they should with the kit they have on them. Have you ever had it on a different RR from their Dynapack?

Apart from that mate, you have been a busy boy on that car and it looks very well set up and very capable. A lot of work gone into the bits that you can't see which is always the case with cars like this!

Have you got any 1/4 mile times yet?

Nah, no quarters. Not a massive drag fan if I'm honest...
As for Mapping, I did say "up until now"...They mapped my PFC and I find that OK (albeit a bit rich funnily enough!!) but I'm looking to replace it with a Syvecs S6 which I will entrust to a Syvecs specialist for mapping.
Your right about the bits you can't see..I'm trying to make it as light as possible using a bit of innovative thought and making my own parts where possible. I COULD throw money at it on dry carbon panels etc but see that as just a bit silly. .

I knew Tweenie Rob (TR Racing) from back when he was at Perfect Touch. He was a genius when it came to mapping the cars (RIP). He was also involved in the early stages of the development of the Syvecs I think?

My mate went for the Syvecs as that was what Rob had in mind for his car but has recently decided to change again due to the lack of support on race days and other reasons. He is now on a MoTeC M880 which has loads more functions and bolt ons albeit more expensive.

Work Emotion are very light wheels and a good place to start with weight savings... Carbon Fibre is great and especially the dry stuff but it is by no means cheap. I see you have already done some good work stripping the interior. There is so much that can be done to lighten the GT-R and the R32 is already quite light. Carbon Props, Carbon Seats, AC removal, Reduced Size Fuel Tank, Perspex Glazing etc etc...

I have been considering an R34 for a while now. I have seen a sweet one but i'm holding on for a while as I have got some money to inject into my business very soon and i'm not sure what that amount of cash is going to be :(

BTW the Syvecs man pulled some really impressive numbers from a few cars I know... totally transformed the car from the same engine and turbos - just mapped properly!

You should be really impressed with what that ECU and mapper will do to the car and the power delivery.
