Jack
Jack
Today, I changed the tyres on the X5 from winters to the summer wheels again. However, my faithful jack of about 20 years could no longer lift the car and was leaking by the feel of it.
I did get a maintenance kit at the time with it with new seals etc, but no idea where it is and nor whether I would ever trust the jack again. Changed the wheels with the BMW jack in the end, not too bad.
As I use the jack a lot, including for my M as well, I need one which can go low as well as high enough to be able to lift the X wheels off the ground. Any recommendations for a new unit?

Re: Jack
I would have recommended this one pvr, just after Christmas and for early part of Feb it was down to £34.99, now gone back up!

And it gets low enough to get under the 1-series, that's low too.

Re: Jack
It seems you have same operational requirements as me. My current trolley jack not high enough to raise the X sufficently and too low for the Z from front or rear, though there are specific areas to avoid as jack points & with diffs being a big NO supposedly.
This is low access high level link Not sure on the max weight required for the X5 though & keen not to recommend anything in abscence being 100% sure of the product - especially on an item where safety is so paramount.
Arcan 30BL seems a poular choice and good value when bought at Costco- far more expensive elsewhere though....... check out ebay Item number: 170623760657
Ideally I would get a dedicated sill jack adapter I think Lez bought one. Obviously axle stands up to the job & weight are just as important.
2 spare wheel jacks will lift 2 wheels at a time & for non wheel removal work ramps can be handy...........assuming graduated or sufficent entry ramps to avoid underside damage.

Re: Jack
£500 one looks nice, but a bit more than I want to spend on that though.
Just applied for the Costco card as they opened a new outfit closer to me, i.e. near Purley. Might have a look there as well then.

Re: Jack
Certainly quite a lot of positive comments on PH re the Arcan Jacks from Costco albeit mixed speculative concerns re intergrity of alluminium jacks in general the 30BL is steel so sturdier.
Good deals on Mobil1 & regular promotion on Michelin Tyres at brancheds with tyre shop.
Distance was only thing that prevented me registering for a card previously, (albeit I will still have to pay vat).

Before we know it he will be stopping at Ikea Towers, running through back doors for v.f.m. hot dogs.
Hopefully they will have these in stock soon - it certainly seems best value out there subject to availabilty.
