Hey wilkoturbo, sorry nobody has managed to help, unfortunately I can't either. I was just wondering how the SSS connects, what the software does and how much it all costs.
Thanks

Regarding the SSS and the way it operates...
In order to code a car, the SSS SW will check that all of the vehicles ECUs are at the latest level (SW wise) before it will continue. If not, it will try to update/reflash the ECUs in the car providing you have all of the relevant files on your computer otherwise it will not progress.
In a dealership, the SSS machine is configured to work over ethernet using an OPS interface. The OPS interface has the K-Can diagnostic interface (D-Can) and MOST interface built in. In some of the more modern BMWs, the MOST part of the interface is required to update some of the infotainment ECUs so you might struggle to use the full functionality of the SW without the proper OPS interface.
Basically, the SSS can update the SW level on your vehicles ECUs, Code ECUs, and change certain coding bits/options (e.g .Window closing from remote, alarm bleep, etc)
Hope this helps...
What car do you have? Do you have the OPS head interface?

Alternative BMW software would be... (also compatible with your USB obd cable)
Old GT1 - Coding, diagnostic, etc (SSS is just a modern update of some of this functionality for the new BMWs..)
WINKFP - ECU SW updates/flashing
NCSExpert - ECU/vehicle Coding
Ediabas Toolset - Diagnostics - same as INPA but less user friendly and more dangerous if you dont know what you are doing - a bit more vehicle knowledge required.
INPA - complete vehicle diagnostics / sensor monitoring

Regarding the TV in motion, as far as i am aware it is not possible to activate it with the standard BMW dealer tools due to legal issues. It is possible using NCSexpert but you have to have the correct profile and know a few of the ins and outs of the SW. The resler tool and Software Penny has would be the easiest method to do this.
Regarding the Tranny lurch, the only thing you could do is ensure you have the latest SW version in your gearbox ECU (From what i have read, Jason is probably the guy who could give you an indication to what version should be on your ECU). Alternatively, Reset your ECU parameters/adaption - there are a couple of posts on here regarding that process.
