Collecting Blue Thunder on Friday - any advice ??!!
Collecting Blue Thunder on Friday - any advice ??!!
Okay so I'm getting excited and have just dropped about 25 years ... can't believe the moment is almost here ... collecting the car on Friday!! Other than checking the car has the spec as ordered, that there are no flaws / damage, and driving like a grandma until you get used to the size, do owners out there have any top tips for the handover ??

I think you have it about right. I would check for Damage, Damage & Damage.....Oh & repairs. Include a quick glance underside, a check of all rims, panels & door edges !
Maybe check prescence of all books/doc's & ensure the V5 & tax discs are correct. I would probably check engine oil level, tyre pressures & lock nut once home.
I have seen some pretty long lists on various forums............balance should ideally be struck between sensible checks & just being plain sad. Big day though............do what you feel happy with.

As per AW8, take your time and be diligent, but not silly. Its a very big purchase so you need to be comfortable before driving away. Also, you have that warranty for 3 whole years remember, so exercise it when necessary.
Anyway, once satisfied with checks, ENJOY IT!
Good luck.

I have only ever picked up new bikes and that was bad enough lol. As the others have said, just have a good look round for body/wheel damage and make sure you are comfortable with all the controls before you set of on your maiden voyage.
Just enjoy and don't forget the pics so us poor mortals can drool....

Many thanks for the tips ! I hope it hasn't been damaged / repaired as a brand new car !! But I guess things can happen in transit so better safe than sorry ...

MJim, Can you share your experience in terms of time from order to build, from build to delivery, etc? It seems a bit opaque in the UK compared to the US.
thx,

Re: Collecting Blue Thunder on Friday - any advice ??!!
I signed my order contract on 8th February, and the car was delivered to the dealership towards the end of last week. Final pick up is tomorrow. So just over 2 months order to delivery. I believe the build of the car started a few weeks after I placed the order, as I called up to add the 6NR feature (see other postings) and was told too late as the car was being built. The delivery takes a few weeks as the cars are loaded up on a ship in South Carolina US which then takes a roundabout route dropping off and picking up. I think things are quietening down now - I believe the lead time used to be considerably longer - presumably as there's more obvious competition and also as there'll be a X5 mark III out in a two/three years ...
Unfortuantely we don't get the same information feed as US customers do here in the UK - and the only real way to get updates is to call the dealer. Even then, they only have limited information themselves.
Hope this helps !

Very excited - have taken day off work to collect car this afternoon! The guys from Armourfend were over at the dealership taking templates yesterday, and will be fitting film to vulnerable areas this morning. Very impressed with them so far, but will be interesting to see how it looks.

Very interested in what you're doing with Armourfend. Can you share more details on who's the installer, what areas you're doing, and the cost!?

Many thanks everyone! On my way there now. Armourfend is on and has been signed off by dealership. Will post more info when I've seen it and am back home (currently on iPhone). Will also post the usual pics !
