16-9 Nav/TV Screen
Re: 16-9 Nav/TV Screen
Not surprised - my dealer refused to believe that turbos on the 3.0d had a habit of going, they denied ever seeing that happen....

Re: 16-9 Nav/TV Screen
Think my unit has done this today. Was fine before going shopping then came back out and background colour is all washed out. Wont change colour from blue to orange either it all looks the same, a washed out shade of grey.
I suppose i better get myself squeezed into the boot. Won't be very easy for a stiff bodybuilder!

Re: 16-9 Nav/TV Screen
Had same problem as above member's.Has been like it for approx. 1 week. Decided to have a look today. Did as Penny said, removed the screen surround with flat blade, (not too heavy handed). Mine has got 4 screw's holding the screen in. I can only describe them as mini torx screw's. With these screw's removed, the whole unit can be withdrawn. At the back of the unit there are 2 connectors, 1 white & 1 blue. Release the clip's that hold the connectors in & gently ease the connectors out. Give every thing a good blow out, (mine was a little dusty, but not too bad). Gently put the connectors back into their respective place's(colour coded so can't make mistake?). Can now try your screen before reassembly to make sure all working correctly. Thought it would be easier to go this route before breaking my back in the boot. Thankfully it worked for me (for now)
Penny - bring some sandpaper (to clean the connectors)!:
Sandpaper!!? If you can get one in there, you would be better off with a new pencil eraser on the end of a pencil, and possibly a bit of switch cleaner. If you can find some 'Electrolube' locally then that's good too. I used to get it from RS Components or Farnell.
Stuff like these.. http://www.electrolube.com/docs/lubricantmain.asp?id=59. Strips
Great for servicing connections in vehicles.
Sandpaper of the 'flour paper' type - 1200 grit - is sort of OK, but you can end up removing the plating on the pins which then allows corrosion if you use anything coarser or are too enthusiastic!

Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.

Back again,
Well I took the head unit out & cleaned the connections + contact spray, still the same so out came the spare wheel, compressor etc & cleaned & sprayed TV module connections.
It took three goes but now all back to normal so looks like that's what it was.
Gave the boot area a vacuum as well, it's amazing how much crap gets in there Found 2p as well
Thanks to all who posted info on here & Sanj for pics of TV module ( wasn't sure which one of the boxes it was )

Re: 16-9 Nav/TV Screen
Glad that worked Phil!
How did you get on ITBarbie? Still OK?
That bit of work saves you £120 at the current rate $tealers want to charge to do that AND they're not sure it will cure the problem. Always worth a go yourself.
Fingers-crossed it stays good!

Re: 16-9 Nav/TV Screen
Hi Sanj
I am afraid I got the brown screen of poo today as opposed to the blue screen of death I've just PM'd X555 to see if he was suffering as I wanted solace Alas it is still happening. Still lets face a blow of wine breath that I gave it when I took out the head unit and a lack of nail file when you did the module is not the same as contact spray so I may have to get all "geezer bird" again and get into it with a bit of contact spray
Check in next week Phil and let us know if it stayed sky blue or has gone all washed out again?

Re: 16-9 Nav/TV Screen
This is a two pronged attack. You have the ribbon in the screen up front and the connectors on the TV module in the boot. Either could be at fault.
