Thanks X5Sport but I am confused now :? :? :? I don't know how to check if I have 6NF and or 6NF, but I definitely have Media pack, so will it let me have my songs/playlist on Nav screen and control via xDrive :driving: ?
Get a copy of the build sheet from your Dealer. If it was ordered then it will show up. They can call it off from their screens. It would also be on your copy of the order paperwork for the car as 6NF was a £75 add-on until replaced by 6NR which is a £130 add-on I think. 6NF is not part of the media pack but 6FL is and gives you a USB port in the armrest. 6NF adds another USB function to the phone cradle system only to allow the iphone audio to be fully controlled by the idrive whilst plugged into a proper phone cradle. It also enables the cover art to be visible.

With 6FL, the playlists will only be available and controllable via the iDrive if you use the Apple cable and plug it into the USB port in the centre front armrest. In that config the phone will operate via bluetooth only, and the music via USB only.

Ok, I got home and checked the paperwork - I do have 6FL - USB Audio interface.
Thanks again for the detailed explanation

cheers

You're welcme. I've learned a lot about the USB options in the last three weeks, and have even taught the Dealer.

Perhaps I should change my job and become a Specialist BMW Salesperson for the X Family? Nah, not enough momey in it. I would like to get a proper manual for both the X5 and X6 though. That's the trouble with engineers, we want to see how things work. I have never ended up with a jam jar full of bits once I put it back together again though.

Anyone know where to get a manual?

No sir. A proper workshop/repair type manual. There's the Bentley book but it does not cover diesels. I think the TIS can be found on line but is usually out of date and not always from a 'trustworthy' source shall we say.

OK I have an answer (of sorts) from the Dealer. He tells me that BMW GB Technical Support have told him that option 6NF cannot be retrofitted and it's not simpky a case of connecting up the missing bits or replacing what is fitted with the right parts. Of course being an engineer I have asked for a detailed explanation and possibly a call with said techies to establish 'why not'. I don't expect an answer of course, but stranger things do occasionally happen! Call me suspicious, but the easy answer is always to say no it cant be done as against spending a little while looking at the technical diagrams, circuit maps and parts lists and stating clearly 'why not', or really finding that 'yes it can, and this is how...'.

I'll await events, but I'm not holding my breath. I just get this feeling I am being lied to, and I don't know who by, and I don't like that one bit.

I am not familiar with retrofit concept and am probably missing something - this guy seem to be in Poland so how can we retrofit 6NF here in UK?
