BMW introduced their first electric and hybrid models a few years back and there are an ever increasing number of pure electric BMW ‘X’ cars now coming onto our roads now, or over the next few months and years.
My family now owns an iX1 (U11) xDrive 30. I also have an order for the Neue Klasse iX3 (NA5) xdrive50 awaiting production. I’m a convert, though I still own an X6
BMW will be launching the NK iX5 this year with the iX4 also imminent. The iX1, iX2 and iX3 are already here in their previous F and G model guises. The NK iX3 is selling in huge numbers necessitating additional production shifts to be brought in at the plant at Debrecen in Hungary.
So, and not wishing to upset the petrol/diesel heads, or the V8 crowd (electric power will never match the growl of a V8), is it now time for us to also embrace the inevitable move to electric as well and welcome those models, owners, followers etc to our table?
In case you’re wondering. You can modify these cars and you can service them. There’s not much to do and some care is needed around the 400V/800V power packs (but those can be safely disconnected very simply using the correct processes). If the i4 (G26) forums are anything to go by, owners are changing parts, changing function in the idrive using aftermarket apps and doing the things owners like to tinker at.
Let me know what you think.
